New Savage FV-SR! My thoughts... Long... Big pics.

So... I purchased a NIB Savage Mark II FV-SR (from 3screwsloose... Thanks again, Great guy) on The EE on the 21st of December.
It was in the mail the same day, but with all the holidays in the shipping period, I Finally received it yesterday, Which just happened to be my birthday! lol

Like many of you know its super hard waiting for optics to come and get mounted (Hawke Varmint SF on the way), and to actually get the time to go play with the new toys. I said screw waiting and slapped a Bushnell banner 1-4x32 on it with one.... yes ONE ring I had laying around haha!
I had also purchased a 6-9" swivel bipod with notched legs, and 500 rounds of mini mags, while I was waiting for it to show up. I Just got home from the old gravel pit I shoot at and here are a few pics.

Im thinking the Hawke and some new rings will clean up the look a bit, also trying to get my hands on a tacticool stock from boyds.

You guys wondering how it did?
In my opinion the thing is a damn tack driver, now keep in mind im no amazing shot! And with the circle-X reticle that sucks big time for target shooting as you see here....

I was still able to get these results at 25 yards with just the bipod, prone in the bed of my shooting beater...
first targets after 5 or 6 sighting shots...

All shot with CCI 36 grain HP mini mags.

I have no doubts these groups will shrink with the Hawke, This rifle has a ton of potential!

As for my thoughts on this rifle...
Everyone who has owned one has said how "rough" the finish is on the barrel and action of these things, and they didn't lie, its almost like sandpaper. But I can get over that. This thing is SHORT, I never expected it to be so "small" but it is and I like it, very compact. Cycling the first 3 or so mags it felt a bit rough when chambering a round, but it started to smooth out by the end of the 100 rounds I went through today. If I wasn't getting so cold towards the end of the session I woulda stayed and shot this thing for hours! I didn't touch the accutrigger before going out, im glad I didn't, it was perfect for me! A nice clean, light break!

Im not sure what else I can really say about this rifle, other than that it is one of the best .22's I've ever owned. I been noticing there's a lot of talk on here about the FV-SR lately and im glad I made the plunge, hopefully it helps answer any questions out there. If There are any other questions feel free to ask them here. I'll try and answer the best I can, Stay tuned for updated pics.
 
Hey, I'm going for the side focus 2.5-10x44 with half mildot. I've heard good things about them.

And sorry so far I have only put the 100 rounds of mini mag through it, but I can't wait to put hundreds more through it, I have some federal /525 and american eagle kn hand, so ill be trying them soon hopefuly.
 
Love my Fv-Sr. Hate the stock. I am also trying to get a boyds tacticool as well. Might have to get someone close to the border cross it and pick up 20 or so for all of us. Bloody american laws!

You, or more specifically your buddy would be committing a serious crime 20 times in a row... how bad do you really want a tacticool?
 
Camdelle, if you can get some here let me know. I'd definitely be interested.

Border services told me you'd need to get a export permit from the Americans, same as you would for a scope. I don't know how hard that is to get.
 
Good groups for the first time out with that rig.Where do you find these hawke scopes? Ive never heard of them , and they look decent. I like the looks of the Side focus 4-16, and the prices on the site look good.

I got mine on the EE but D&L airguns in BC has them on their web site.

As for the tacticool. I have a dealer and a price I was quoted, boyds will still send them to him so if sh*t hits the fan.... I'm not to one at fault.
 
Here's mine, the scope just arrived and I had to use the rings that came with it; they are a tad high but not as bad as it looks. I'll either track down some low 35MM rings (anybody know who stocks them?) or add a Tac Pro cheek rest because you can never hang to much sh*t off your .22 :pirate: I'm thinking of making use of the tri rail and adding a blender and a micro wave oven.

You'll notice the unusual combination of tri rail, tacticool stock and short barrel with M16 style flash hider (which I added). I bought this rifle off the EE and my understanding that this was a one off build by Savage; the serial number seems to support this. None the less it shoots very well and is a lot of fun and it even produced a decent 25yd group from CCI Quiets but it took 30 of them to accomplish it. Everything else groups very well.

For some unknown stupid reason I never had Savage on my radar but that's changed; I'm having a great time shooting them and think they are really awesome.

Pretty bad i guess. I just have trouble with ridiculous laws from a ridiculous country! What if an american was to buy it and bring it in to Canada?
 
Hey thanks for the pics! Those things are nice! I hope to have some updated pics up tomorrow. If the scope shows up on time.
I might just say screw the tacticool all together and add a cheek riser of some sort.
 
I added a TacPro from Jerry @ Mystic to my old FV-SR and it worked out very well. The plastic stock, as twisted and messed up as it is, actually produces good groups.

Are you not listening? It is an illegal act to export a controlled or restricted product from the US without an export permit. It doesnt matter who you are, if you do it you go to jail. You will be f**king your American buddy over if you talk him/her into it. You need an export permit.

Mine was shooting bug holes at fifty yards then I took it out of the tacticool stock to play with the trigger and forgot to take note of the action screw tightness. Sorry for the offtopic just wondering if anyone with tacticool knows thier action screw tightness?
