New Savage precision rifles

If you go to Savageshooters.com and visit their competition forum, you can see how the Savage Fclass team has been doing. Apparently shooting out of box F/TR with handloads. Placing at some very large US meets so far and intend to travel up to Chilliwack, Ireland, and all around the US to compete.

Must be nice to get sponsored to go play. Great shooters with great gear.

I expect the view on Savage and their competitiveness will change dramatically after the 2007 year.

Yes, I think this competition action will set the new standard for out of box performance. Smiths playing with these actions quote precision rivaling custom actions. For around $600 WITH a superb match trigger, it will take a huge chunk out of the custom action match rifle business.

Ya, the 308 in shooting times shot a .8" group at 500 yards.

Not bad for a factory rifle!! :)

.8 of an inch, or .8 of an MOA ?
I have a hard time believing an 'out of the box'
rifle can shoot less than 1/5th of an MOA.

I'm not say'n this isn't true,
just VERY unlikely.

WW, the authors were quick to indicate that was not an average group but a good one. The average was right around 1/2 MOA which is still excellent for any rifle at that range. Right in line with the accuracy I have seen in quite a few Savage/Stevens. They don't list the actual conditions so if the typical windy day, the performance bodes well.

BJD, stock makers will be tooling up to make target stocks soon. Production/delivery of rifles hasn't even started in the US and no one will tool up for something until it has hit the market with firm dimensional specs.

You can contact the normal suspects, even Ian R and see what they have planed. Will not be a difficult action to inlett for. It is pretty much the same size as the 110/10 just with three mounting screws.

Just what I needed...an excuse to build something and stock it myself!

Would liked to have seen a flat bottom design though.

Yes, but the round bottom works well with a V Block bedding system.

wow, anyone have a guess when we can see the F/TR in Canada, and what it might retail for? Based on MSRP, something like $1400 Canadian?

$1400 is cheap considering a full blown custom rifle could set you back $2000-$4000 for just the rifle. I guess we will have to see if they can keep up with the big boys at the range.

I'll take the risk!

If each of you guys want to contribute a few hundred dollars to buy one F/TR rifle, I'd be more than willing to sacrifice myself to try this new toy and report back that I can now shoot ¾" groups at 500 yds:D  :D

I'd provide pics of the targets, of course, and would even pay for my own ammo! Now that's a deal, right?!:slap:

They are coming to Canada, just don't know exactly when and they will retail around $1100,for the .308 . If you contact S.I.R in winnipeg they will give you an exact price and ETA.

the 6.5x.284 is going to be for 1199.95 at Wholesale Sports, I would assume the .308 version would be the same or cheaper..
