New scope for .30-06

Sounds like to me in your above post you got one of those super jackets to impress your buddies with. Have fun with that

Yes I did get a free jacket. What's wrong with free? Plus I bought a scope that is perfectly fine for my purposes. What is this need of yours to "impress" people? You have mentioned it a few times. You seems to have feelings of inadequacy and require constant recognition from others. That's ok, the first step is realizing you have this problem.

I replaced the simmons on my savage 111 with an Elite 3200 3-9 and leupold rings and bases. The difference is night and day

And that's exactly why I'm looking to replace that Simmons. Still torn between the apparantly better warranty on the VX-1 and the click adjustments as well as finger adjustments on the 3200 (as opposed to the micro-friction and screws on the Leupold)... Here's a question, how many people here have actually had either of these scopes break on them just through normal use, and after how long? :)

I have a Vari-X ll and a Vx-ll apart from the coatings, the biggest diff is that the newer VX-ll has 1/4 moa clicks. Either are fine for a hunting rig, you'll find that more seasoned varminters may prefer the older friction turrets as at long range, 1/4 moa is the diff between a hit and a miss on a gopher.

I have become quite a fan of Millet - in particular the BUCK GOLD line. The BUCK SILVER is also a nice choice. Every one of my rifles are now adorned with Millet optics. As much as the last few posts have been amusing:popCorn: - the only dealing that I had with Bushnell's warranty depot was quite un-eventful.
