I am looking for a scope and having never owned one before, I need some help pointing me in the right direction. I have a new savage .22 and want a scope that will let me target shoot from 10 to 100 yds. I belong to an indoor 20 yd range and plan on joining another one with a 100 yd range. I have been searching the forum for help but feel like I'm going in circles. I would like a 4-12x with an adjustable objective and ideally around $200, give or take. I want a scope that will be clear at 100 yds. I am leaning toward a Bushnell Banner, but then I see that other options are Vortex, BSA, Mueller. Each with varying opinions and quality issues. That is where I feel like I am going in circles, for every positive review there are just as many negative ones.

I don't usually like to pimp my wares in threads with people asking for advice, but I have a Bushnell Trophy XLT 6-18x40 AO for sale, and I think it may work for what you want. I was briefly mounted on a Savage mark II, so the rings should easily mount on to your rifle without any fiddling.

Bushnell Trophy XLT

It retails new for $220 and I'm throwing in a set of Weaver rings and shipping for $190. I'm kind of surprised it hasn't sold already. IMO the Trophy is much better than the banner, although for your application it might not make a huge difference.

Vortex Diamondback or Crossfire II excellent scopes for that price range. You should also check out Hawkeoptics.. they are a bit of an outsider around here but I bought one for my savage .22 and it is so awesome. dlairgun.com sells a few of their lineup and they are by far the best quality for price scope I've ever used. After buying one for my .22 I bought two more for my gopher rifle in .204 and my coyote rifle in .204.

i bought a savage package a while ago that came with a vortec crossfire 4x12 ao. its not a luep but for a $200 scope it works on a rimfire.

Thanks for reminding me about Hawke, they seem cheap enough to try out, the vortex line is a little more and all the threads about them breaking down is straying me away.

Original bushnell legend series 4-12x40 ao on for $157 at Dante's in Montreal. Far better than the trophy xlt that replaced them imo. I have one on a .22 mag and very pleased.

I don't know if they are the same thing but La Barons has them for $109, if and when the store in Mississauga ever gets them in stock
