New Scope for REM 700 5R MilSpec

I'm in a pickle. I cant decide between the glass listed below. I am looking to target/hunt (mostly target) at about 200-400yards with my Remington 700 5R milspec. My range is between $600-800 (without tax/shipping). It will be my first real scope. Any suggestions as to quality, preferences, and experiences would be great.

Sightron
SII 6.5-20x50
SIII 3.5-10x44

Zeiss
Conquest 3.5-10x44

Vortex
Viper PST 4-16x50

Leupold (VX-3)
3.5-10x40
3.5-10x50
4.5-14x40

I'm thinking the 3.5-10x40/50 may be short for these ranges but I guess we can talk about that too.

I have a 5R - it's a great rifle. Because I went over budget on the rifle, for the first year I ran a 3-9x40. It was a bit short for anything beyond 150 yards.

I would recommend spending as much as you can. I now run a Bushnell 4200 Elite in 6-24x50, which cost about $750 iirc. It's great for target shooting, but it's a bit dark for hunting, especially at dawn and dusk.

If you plan on doing more hunting than target, I would suggest going with a Leupold.
 
Target and hunting don't really go together that well. That being said the 5R is a tactical rifle and easily a sub .5 moa rifle with off the shelf match ammo.

I prefer to go with more magnification than less for this type of rifle.

Best bang for the buck is the Zeiss Conquest with RapidZ reticle. 6.5-20x 50mm with Rapid Z 1000 reticle. 3.5" constant eye relief (doesn't change) etched reticle, excellent glass and repeatable. Great for tactical/target shooting. I'd take it hunting if setting up and going for more distant shots but not if using a truck on slash roads and jumping out once in a while, or lots of travel by foot. The weight, and high magnification don't make it ideal for this purpose. But again something for both is going to be mediocre at both.

That being said the Sightron SIII is also very tempting.

Here's one on the EE but you'd have to find out which Z plex (you want the 1000 for the 5R). Yes it lines up perfectly with 168 Federal Gold ammo. Or 165 Fussion for hunting/sight in. Sight in with 165 Fusion then one click up for 168 Federal Gold and you're dead on.

I'm also thinking about the ELITE Tactical 6x–24x (50mm) - Possibly going for the Illum. BTR-Mil Reticle. I have heard some good things about these ones.

I'm also pondering about the Sightron SIII 6-24x50mm
 
I have a Sightron SIII 8x32x56 LRMOA on my 5R and it's awesome.... My buddy just bought a Leupold Mark4 and I would say that the Sightron is better and barely half the price.... I checked in a NF 8x32x56 yesterday and compare the three scope and I'm really happy with my move..... So I would say....go with a Sightron SIII and you won't regret..... And for around 850 you can find some nice one on the EE if you want to save some money...

Target turret are maybe not the best for hunting...but just put it back to zero and it will really be back to zero..
 
For hunting or target, consider to have a look at a 2.5-16 Bushnell 6500 - either tac or regular - hold it up to some other more expensive scopes, and you will be pleasantly surprised!
Another nice scope I recently saw, but know nothing about it, was a weaver super slam 5-20....what caught my eye was how the turrets work - no caps, but they lock - good idea for hunting!
Both are in your budget.

The Sightron SIII is a good target scope. I plan on getting one for a 5R that is going to be a target rifle only. But.... The NF is built tougher, has fixed eye relief, illuminated reticle, better reticle choices and an etched reticle rather than wire. The NF is the better all around scope. But.. if just for the range or bench shooting the Sightron is a much better deal.

Yup they are accurate. I'll most likely be going the SIII 8-32x for one of my 5R rifles. That being said... for a tactical/target or target/hunting rifle the 8-32x wouldn't be recommended. 5.5-22, 6-20, 6.5-22x etc are recommended. The 8-32x is dedicated target, F class stuff only. If this were a dedicated hunting rifle I'd be saying 2-7x or 3-9x.
