I just bought my Savage 111 FC in 30-06 today, super excited! But i just wanted to clear something up, i was reading past forums on this rifle set and everyone complained about the scope and rings that it comes in. Savage Arms upgraded their combo from a Simmons 3-9x40 scope to a Bushnell 3-9x40, although it isn't an Elite 3200 it is still better.

For those who feel it's a big issue to upgrade the stock scope don't bother unless you really want it. Not sure if they changed the rings but they will do fine. The guy said he sold tons of these and nobody complained, they will do the job and do it great! $0.02

Nobody said you couldn't use the scope. You may feel the need to upgrade later, as the eye relief and parallax can be a bit annoying, especially with the bigger calibers. I didn't like sneaking in close to the scope to get a full field of view. I used my simmons for 4 years and just this year got a Bush 4200. Best money I have ever spent on the rifle.

I had one outing at the range with the combo and found the scope quite adequate. Visually I think they are pretty good. I then replaced it with a 4200 4x16, but I did buy the gun to go on that scope.

I've seen the Bushnell scopes on the Savage combos. Yes, they are not 3200's but they aren't too bad either for a basic starter. Econo scopes now are miles ahead of the econo scopes of 10 - 15 years ago.

NAA.

A while ago, somebody mentioned the model name of the scope on the package rifles and it wasn't the Banner. I don't recall what the name was, but I checked the Bushnell sight at the time and it wasn't listed. The old Simmons 8-point was never listed on the Simmons sight either, so Crazy Davey may be right. From what I can see on the Savage website, it looks like the rings are different as well. The old ones are split vertically and only have two screws. The bottom screw clamps the ring to the base as well as clamping the scope in the ring, which is why they are crap. The factory setup held zero for over 100rounds of 7mm Rem Mag on mine. I later swapped it out for a Bushnell 3200 series and Weaver grand slam rings. The old scope is on a 9.3mm Mauser and the rings are in the junk drawer where they belong.

The savage Combo I shot was all over the Map would not hold Zero
The gun was ok trigger poor and scope poor .Repalced scope it was
a Simmons .

Damn.. I've been kicking myself for not upgrading to the Bushnell Elite 3200 for another 60 bucks, I think next week I will come back do a quick return/buyback with the scope upgrade. I'll leave the rings on for now until they come undone.

If $60 would have got you an upgrade to a 3200 series, then good for you for kicking yourself. Assuming the gun is unfired, I'm guessing you shouldn't have an issue making the switch. As Trykillthis said, upgrade the rings while your at it. Burris Zee's, Weaver grand slams and a lot of others are likely to be a big improvement over whats on it now.

Yeah im not taking a chance, i was just back at the gun store the guy was really busy they are having their spring sale, so i will be back on monday or tuesday to work out a good deal, he mentioned before $60-70 for an upgrade i think its well worth it, plus i know i would eventually upgrade might as well do it now since i have the money. The rings seem pretty sturdy so until they start giving way i won't be buying better ones yet. I'll go downstairs and post up a picture in a bit to see what you guys think :)

It's a Bushnell Sharpshooter!

I looked through all the paper junk you get with the gun and thats what it says. Here is how it looks like.. sorry had to use computer cam :p
