New Shilen BR Custom Action - An Interesting Marriage

Maybe preproduction pic but yes, no vent holes visible.

Would assume the bolt head is recessed like the Savage and Rem. Also the barrel may have a recessed chamber like the Rem so that would duplicate the Rem 3 ring steel concept.

Jerry, those vent holes are easy to fix and not the biggest problem. Obviously the bolt head is recessed but to be safe it needs second baffle to block the gas and brass particles rushing back along bolt raceways like the Savage bolt does. Remington's 3 rings of steel concept works only if there is protruding expandable ring in front of the locking lugs so said ring is #1 then recess in the barrel is #2 and receiver is the #3 ring of steel. Shillen design has only one ring of steel; the receiver, completly useless design from the shooter safety point of view. I noticed lots of exitement and drooling about this action, some even calling it "###y".... wow! There is nothing ###y about being blind and having face with permamently imbeded cartridge debris.

The bolt face is recessed so that would be ring 1. Not sure how the barrel is set up so will leave that for now and they you have the receiver which is #2.

how many custom actions have these 3 rings or some baffle?

I am thinking most only have 2 like the Shilen and Stiller???????

All actions say they have some baffle are the rear of the bolt which will stop gases coming down the raceway. I assume the bolt handle is what they are refering too.

You make a valid point but in lawsuit happy USA, wouldn't some venting be built in?

For now, I am using my Savage and Stevens and have blown primers with nary a smell of smoke. They seem to do all I need or want at this time.
