New shipment of Chinese SKS

what shortage of 7.62 x 39?
It's availlable at many retailers. Heck even my local LGS in small town bc interior has at least 20 cases stacked up on display at all times. His prices are a bit higher but seeing as none of the couriers that service here will transport personal ammunition purchases..... his prices aren't terribly out of line.
I stocked up years ago so only buy when i see deals too good to pass up.

Yep, When I open my last can I'll start shopping again. But I'll Never PASS UP a GOOD SALE!!

its great but with the shortage of 7.62x39 and 7.63x54R is it a good buy dis days

The only shortage there may be is in the Russian/Barnaul/Wolf/Tulammo NC stuff. But even then tons of retailers stock Norinco red box (and despite what gets posted online, the latest stock of 311/18, 311/19, 311/20 red box are indeed non-corrosive. I have shot a total of 2300 rounds of those from various retailers and none have given me any issues with rust, etc. in the piston tube, piston, barrel, bolt, chamber, action, etc. (I don't clean the gun for 4-5 days). Almost every retailer out there would carry red box NC. And from what I have seen, even more retailers will carry the spam cans, bulk surplus corrosive rounds, even the small mom and pop shops with no online presence. Lots of 7.62x39 to be had. Sure, the prices are not what they were 5-10 years ago, but the ammo is still widely available. Even my small gun club sells it, both corrosive and non-corrosive.

Lots of x39 online and local BP has got lots in this past month but it's at $499+tx. Price is still sorta high but even shipped I was at $0.40 / round. Better if you're near a store that's at $450 or so.

.I just looked today and Tenda is at $419.99 + tax w-Free shipping - Not a Shortage there . . . yet. Tempting to add another 1100.

At least they let you pick and chose. Too risky for an online order.

For Sure! That is always my advice to curious buyers. Always buy in person. Make the store show you 3 rifles at least and make sure you are happy. Best to fieldstrip the rifle in the store too so you can inspect the internals a bit.

Fwiw, cosmolene is no guarantee something won't rust. I've bought many a well cosmolene rifle and found rust here and there under the grease. Grease works well, but it's not perfect all the time. That said, hopefully that rusty trigger guard wants up ok with some steel wool.

I'd say those repairs look like factory efforts to salvage lower grade blanks. In one, I can see what I think is the start of a knot or check in the grain that was milled out and patched.

Obviously, non patched is better, but I wouldn't return a f
Rifle over a factory patch. These aren't exactly fine walnut stocks to begin with :)

it's funny, these stocks with the plugs , I bet one day down the line the oddity will be sought after
All things considered though, I will probably pop into a larger dealer while I'm on the road this hunting season or down to the coast to cabelas or reliable and get a hands on.
Not going to do a sight unseen online purchase, that and I want to pay cash. LOL Trying to ween myself off using the credit card for gun stuff.

oddity scares yes but i think its common cos 2 out of 5 at intl supplies had plug(s).

So where is best to buy an sks rn? Seems people are iffy on cabelas

at cabelas ($550) they will charge you Ont PST but if you buy from intl supplies ($500) in surrey, they MAY NOT cos you are outta province.

sound like you want one that has no plugs and no rust then call them to make sure, if there is a small fee for hand pick then pay it.

Ontario has HST which is a whopping 13%, not PST! Even if Ontarians buy a product in another province and that product is shipped to Ontario, they must pay HST!

In case anyone is wondering, I just picked up a crate of the Chinese surplus ammo on sks stripper clips that North Sylva brought in with the rifles. My crate had two green spam cans, galvanized metal with two spam keys in the box. Factory 321, 1974 headstamp. 1160 rounds in the crate. Advertised as 1100 Rds, so not sure if I got lucky (doubtful) or perhaps they are all like that. All mine is on parkerized stripper clips marked 230.

Sadly the price is the highest we've seen on Chinese 7.62x39 ammo at 549.00. The last batch were 1500 rds per crate, not on stripper clips - so likely packaged for AKM's, those were around $400-450 a crate when they were around.

I got this crate at Cabela's if that matters.

Funny you should describe what you did.

When I was in South America, on a buying tour with Allen Lever half a century ago, we watched a bunch of rifles being dipped in melted cosmolene. None of the rifles had been refurbed. All of them were rack grade or better.

They were in various condition as far as bores went as well.

Some of them were ''rusty''

In Peru, we went to look at a bunch of Peruvian Mausers, before they were about to be ''dunked''

By this time on the trip, Allen told the warehouse super that he only wanted to look at ''unissued specimens"

The rifles hadn't been stored properly and the crates were in various states of rotting away and the wrappings on the as new rifles in the crates was decomposing as well.

We found a few dozen crates that looked immaculate and bought them, along with a hundred other crates that were the least deteriorated. Then had them shipped to an approved exporter, son of the local police chief, to be repacked and wait for export/import papers.

About six months later, they arrive in Vancouver, where customs inspected them with a rather heavy hand and pulled the wrappings off the receivers, so they could match up serial numbers.

The rifles then went to a warehouse, which was more akin to a hayshed and sat for another six months before we got them.

Yes, they all had some rust on them, even though they were soaked in cosmo.

HST= GST+PST . every provinces pay the 5% GST so the only difference is the PST. get it?

BC didnt sign up for HST so when i buy from a dealer outta province, im not charged PST. so its not the reverse. you from Ont. buying from a small dealer in BC still has to pay the Ont. PST, you poor soul, lol.

Well damnit. I bought last night, and Cabela's put it on sale, $140 off, literally an hour after I purchased it. Seems a bunch of places put this ammo on sale yesterday.

I'll phone to see if they'll do price adjust or not.

As for Tenda, I would always pay more to not buy from them. Late shipments, slow transfers, poor service and shipping guns they haven function checked, missing firing pins, etc. No thanks. They'd have to have an exclusive before I'd roll the dice there.
