New Shipment of Norinco M14's from Marstar

I would not hesitate to take a moose, black bear, elk, or any deer that walks the planet with an properly set up and tuned m14s out to 300 yards. It is capable of delivering a .308 bullet out to that distance as easily and effectively as any bolt gun in a hunting application. I regularly hunt with an m14s, I have other rifles, but the m14s gets it's fair share of field time, and i do 75% or more of my hunting on foot. Took one of my bucks this year at 125 yards -ish , iron sights, federal blue box 150 gr. The m14s, properly tuned and set up is an affordable and reliable hunting implement.

After all the reading and research that I've done regarding the M-14S, I don't see why all of what you just said is anything other than 100% true and correct. People seem to assume that because A) it's semi automatic, and B) it's a variant of something that was at one time a battle rifle, that it's a totally unreliable rifle beyond a certain distance. If my memory serves me correctly, I recently read about an M1A that grouped 1 MOA at 1000yds?
I'm very much looking forward to having this rifle out in the field, and to see that seconded by someone who knows so much about these rifles only spurs my confidence.

What's the average cost of the tuning required and what's involved?

Exactly.

I'm a good shot and I can tell you that there is no way in hell that this rifle in it's current configuration could shoot a 1 MOA at 1000 yrds.
Ain't going to happen.....period.

It's a challenge to get 1 MOA at 300 yrds.

I think the idea here is to say that it's possible for an M-14S type rifle to shoot those distances, with the right modifications and some serious coin invested. The inference being that you can reliably shoot lesser distances (300 yards), with less modification, and a lower level of difficulty.

M14S - Made for Alberta!

so... using a norinco m14 as a hunting rifle in alberta and near the sask border for those 200+ yd shots may not be the best idea?

I really wanted to hunt with one of these...

I dunno about that one. I hunted a black bear with mine and while it was an extra 2.5 lbs than my bolt rifle, I had the assurance that I could get a quick second shot if needed. The best thing was that in the scrub brush and scouring the countryside for sign, I was not worried one iota about scratching it, getting a little moss on it, leaning it on a rock or anything like that for fear of "losing it's beauty".

The rifle is plenty fugly, ok, but wow, who cares, 'cause I ain't selling and really makes me wonder why I didn't think of it sooner (Before I bought my Browning semi). :D

Careful about what you read!

1" at 1000 yards....I'd suspect that to be a tall fish story. 1" at 100 yards...I'd believe, because I fluked a group like that (no wind, bench rest, hand loads and an overall good shooting day). I have not yet again been able to replicate those fantastic shots. I've been close, but no cigar!

1 MOA @ 1000 yards = 10.4 inches.

In order for a rifle... any rifle... to be that good out of the box, you are going to be talking about shooting custom reloads out of custom rifles with custom barrels, stocks, etc.

Hey all,
As most of you probably know the M-14/M-305 is on pre-order status right now through Marstar (first time they've done it with a Norc product I think?). In any case, I'm thinking about putting my info on the pre-order list for the next shipment, but after having thoroughly researched Norinco's history, I'm wondering what guarantee there is that the rifles won't have some defect or issue common to that batch?
I know there are still some '09 batch rifles floating around, and I could certainly pick up one of those, but I'm uncertain.

Any thoughts?

Thanks-

I orderd one from TradEx. It has the Bayonet lug, but i not sure what batch it is.

Humm, black park or grey? Also where in NS are you from. I'm down in the Valley, and I can say that I don't think there's a huge community of M-14S users in NS...

Not sure, the picture looks black with the Bayonet, on tradeExs site link above. I'm in Elmsdale. we shoot at MVRRC.

Don't even know if their new old or whatever batch.

I see Badger got them for 429.00 as well I didn't see their listing till last night. Again are they the new that Marstars waiting for with Bayonet lug I don't know. There may be someone here who is up to speed on the M14S/Poly 305 lineage better than me.:canadaFlag:

If I'm not mistaken, the black park is the 2009 batch. Also, Ellwood Epps has them on for $425.00 I believe with 2 x 5/5 mags.

That said, I'm still going to wait for Marstar, at least for another month. Coyote season ends here soon, and after that I'll be on hiatus until October with the thing anyway... unless I go to the range, in CHESTER....... barely worth the drive...

Did the 2009 batch have the Bayonet Lug? I like the deal from Marstar(case and their warranty etc), but the wait I saw going on with alot of guys here made go ahead and get it. Is there any firm delivery for Marstars order? I think my son will get one when he raises the money.

When I e-mailed them, they told me that the shipment should arrive next month (March). I'm also waiting for them because they include two mags (5/20 & 5/5), case, strap, cleaning kit, and their warranty! And they do all that for $429.00.
I pasted the e-mail I got from them earlier in this thread.

I will say that when I went to Norinco's website the M-305/M14S is NOT listed... I find that a little distressing, as I've heard very much unconfirmed rumors that they're stopping production....

They told me mid feb.. lol

Wouldnt surprise me that production will stop eventually, they seemed to have boosted QC and manufacturing costs. Or perhaps the US market has been a very big loss for them.
