New Shipment of Norinco M14's from Marstar

the current poly and norcs with non welded bayo lug flash hiders are probably some of the nicest rifles so far when we look at some of the issues over the past few years.
some of the apparent improvements would be :
flash hider machining and dimension is much more consistant
headspace has been shrunk a few thou
oprods do not appear to be so sloppily fit as in the past
and the rear sights on most, not all, seem fairly functional and a higher percentage of them are correctly machined at the aperture and the rear sight base center mark.
overall, I would say that QC at the factories seems to have picked up somewhat.
Honestly i don't see where they can be improved any further and still keep the price low..

what i would like to see...... more attention paid to machining the gas cylinders true and bring back theat nice grey , durable parkerizing...... that black park on the new rifles is thin at best.
bang for the buck....... any of these rifles you choose is good value for the $$$ even if it needs a few little tweaks. Tuning and tweaking are fun stuff to do and with all the support here on CGN...... buying and owning a chinese m14 type rifle or an M1A for that matter, is just a fun thing to do and gives us all a good excuse to spend more time with our friends on gunnutz ;)

M14 Doctor,

I just received my M14S today from TradeX, new in the grease woohoow:h: and I concur on your staement. The flash hider is not welded and the rear sight appears fully functional , nice clicks. Front sight indexed properly.
It has the matte black plastic stock with the grey/black parkerizing.
Funny the CJA SFLD MICH on the receiver with a 2009###X serial number. I thought they were an american importer who supposedly imported the nicest fit ones into the USA many years ago.

It came with 5/20, 5/5, sling and of course the tool and cleaning bottle etc in stock.

It was superbly packaged and arrived on date CP sais it would.

Thanks to Tradex for great service and packaging to protect the rifle properly!:)

Now its time for a M6 bayonet.

I am interested in a Norc M14 -but it seems that you have to be a gunsmith to get them and keep them working optimally. Shims, poor machining, hammer off the flash hider, lube here/don't lube there, etc.

Plus - Marstar has not replied to the email asking about estimated availability I sent them a couple of days ago... I have not been able to reach them by phone either.

With all this said, I am strangely attracted to a Norc M14 (perhaps I like being punished by technical problems).

Are any of my fears justified or do I just need to get a reference manual read it cover to cover?

you don't need to be a gunsmith hehehe
it helps to have a bit of an apptitude for maintaining and tweaking your toys...... but it is fun for many of us. This rifle is not so complicated that the average guy, accompanied by the many helpful stickies by hungry, skullboy, Lazerus2000 and others, along with the daily discussions in the forum, can't enjoy it right out of the box, or tweak and tune to thier ability. The odd one has issues, but buying from a recognizd dealer like the many on cgn, affords some warranty possibilities so if you get a lemon, return it before trying to tweak and tune it back into shape ;)
she is a fun rifle that gives many of us an excuse to spend hours on this site and in many cases make good friends and a lot of good times by owning one too.

I'm really a nice guy, but you need to be schooled.......

I have some rifles worth over 2G's (bare bone)
I shoot around 200 rounds a week out of my Poly M14..... I'd shoot more but I can barely keep up reloading :(

THERE ARE NO ISSUES.

I beat the s**t out of it...all the time...every time

There are no head space issues
There are no fitment issues
There are no reliability issues,
There are no quality control (QA/QC) issues

It is................THE BEST RIFLE I OWN!

Maybe I haven't made it clear enough.
This is the only rifle I would take with me if the End of Days came.

And for the naysayers who have never owned one but have a friend who heard from a guy who has a friend that had some issues.........back to reality.

It'll eat any ammo I throw down it's throat, all day, every day....any day.

lube here/don't lube there

It's called grease....ANY kind of grease. I'm sure it would run on cooking fat.
I've greased the rifle ONCE in 3200 rounds. I clean the bore & chamber every 1000 rounds and I don't even need to do that. The gas chamber has been cleaned once.

In all honesty I'm a little beside myself with this rifle.
I spent $490, + $100 internals + $300 scope and it's a 300 yrd GONG MACHINE.
You hit the gong all day long, even on rapid fire....meaning you're chasing a moving target.
It's also the same rifle which I throw on the floor when I get home and MAYBE after a crazy night with friends.....light on fire d:h:
Big beefy forged parts which will outlast me, for that I'm certain.

BEST FIREARM I OWN!
Would you like me to say that again?

I don't know what else to say.....

:welcome:

Ever thought of doing infomercials or something man? Best sales pitch ever. lol

Just because I've seen mentioned somewhere that they might cease production, im getting one of these babies for the summer.

Which upgrades would you recommend under the 200$ line?

I was thinking sadlak spring guide, sadlak gas piston and shimming the gas tube, leaving me with another hundred untouched. (given that im getting the 2009 batch with un-welded hider and hopefully great sights)

What should be the next upgrade on the list? (and yes of course scope kit is already included in my plans)

Had the one from TradeEx out to the range today, functioned flawlessly with both 5/5 and 5/20 mags . I fired what I had left PSP 150s Federal ,remington etc. Nice shooter looking forward to warm weather to really try it out.:)

Well with that testing/experience I guess theres alot of years shooting in mine!
Thats what i was thinking when I bought it, after the Nork M-4 i bought,I can't find anything wrong, with it at all.

Mine has the dark grey/black parkerizing as M-14 mentioned.

The light grey 2007 was more durable?

I like this guy LOL

I dunno?
I never really got into the running down serial numbers or manufacture numbers on these rifles. Marstar imports, as far as I know anyways, have always been stamped from norinco and the dating on the side started with the 2007 series, however the date was on the right hand side behind the oprod, under the windage knob.
The 2009 series had the number added to the serial number and seem to be coming with norinco AND polytech markings.

I find it wierd that there is no 2008 stamped rifles..... wonder if the new ones will be 2010 or are they making a habit of skipping even years as some kind of chinese omen thing LOL and the new ones will be 2011. :D
I'm not privvy to any info on who is curently responsible for the rifles we currently see on store shelves and online dealer inventories. I do know that there are TWO major importers of chinese rifles and possibly other smaller importers. As I say, this area is not my field of expertise and I'm only guessing hehehe Bell Lifestyles is a major world wide player in sporting goods of all kinds and currently an importer of norinco product. I used to be the head manager and purchasing agent for a large sports fishing outfit with 3 stores and dealt face to face with BELL reps frequently. Was always seeing promo's and deals on purchasing SKS's, M305's, ammo...... and many other firearms accessories. A great many of the rifles I've seen lately bear the Bell import logos and the 2009 serial number. these are also darker but thinner parkerizing, have non weldd bayolug flash hiders and there have been some minor improvements in a couple areas of the rifle.

Now Marstar, being one of the major importers over the past few years is telling us about the m14b and that it is not here yet. Will be interesting to see if they are grey parked , black parked, 2009 serial number, poly? norinco? short barrel version, socom version? dunno........ and all I can do.... like you guys..... is speculate and play the waiting game. I'm so busy right now and for the past year that if those rifles take a few more months to get here..... I'm okay with that :D

for those who can't wait and chose to buy an availlable one....... the worst that can happen in the long run is you will end up with two...... and round these parts that equates to #### loss prevention :D just ask Hungry
