Wow I just called the ATT office for Alberta. This chick sounded like she REALLY did not want to talk to me, she RUSHED the phone call and didn't even ask my name just got my licence - didn't even confirm that the person calling was me! Extremly pushy! As a first time ever calling and not knowing much this is REALLY aggravating! CFC has always been good to me whenever I call and that I am grateful for. But after hearing how friendly the Firearms Centre in Alberta is I am really disappointed. The woman got all snarky with me too! After asking for a ATT good for 24/7 she said "and why would you want your guns on you for 24/7? you can't have your guns on you for 24/7, if you went to travel you have to be a member of a club wherever you travel, don't people read their ATT conditions? you can't do that." Well first every CFC i've spoken with refers to it as the polite form - pistol or at least firearm. Then I tell her that I was recommended by several (CGNers!) to ask for a 24/7 ATT valid for all ranges in Alberta/Western Canada - ok now she goes on a vengeful gripe... then I said "well what if I plan on doing competitions? do i still have to join the club where I plan on doing the competition???" Then she went into another rant and said well what were you planning on doing and lists all the different competitions so fast !!!! I said no IPSC was the first I was planning on doing. Then she says well then call us when you are a member then, then we can add anywhere in western Canada, anything else?

At this point i am left speechless at how i am being treated! I just say no send me my ATT and get off. I just can't believe some people! I've worked in a call centre before and understand when someone is annoying! - but when you're dealing with firearms! You don't RUSH people! I was being polite and was just asking simple newbie questions that she didn't have to be so rude about! If she didn't have the power to revolk my firearms etc I would have given her an ear full about proper etiquette!

I am so upset I can't even type properly or put in proper grammar sorry! Argh!

Oh before you ask why I never got her name, I was just too baffled at how right from the start she was rude! The horrible thing is too that I had about 1 minute of dead air before she spoke, I remember working in the call centre some people would answer the call and put the customer on hold right away in hopes they would hang up, and if not or someone walks by then they answer the call. ARGH!

Outside of a bad phone experience I'm not sure what the specific issue is. Were you getting a short term ATT to take a gun home from a gunshop or a long term ATT to go to the range? Long term ATT's don't require any discussion with the office, you just fill out the form and mail/fax it. It is never in your best interest to discuss any element of what you put down on that form unless they contact you. I don't understand why you needed to talk to her unless it was for a short term ATT in which case it's meant to be a one time move and has nothing to do with goint to any range anywhere.

Must be a one time experience. I would prefer to deal with the Alberta CFO than the CFC, and I enjoy dealing with the CFC.

BC Mike: Sorry I should have mentioned, I was calling to get them to fax my short-term ATT, I asked if it was possible to get my long term as well and she said yes yes yes that will be included i'll mail it now.

All's well that ends well. Soon you'll be on the range and the unpleasant experience will be behind you.

F**K that. I'd get that #####'s name and have a chat with her boss. She has no right or need to question your intentions. 24/7 ATT's a very common and not violating any condition of your ATT. These folks need to realize that our tax dollars pay their salaries. If she doesn't like her cushy government job then quit and go f**k with someone else.

I have dealt with one ##### a couple times. I can always tell that it is her right away. From what I remeber though I think she was with the cfc and not one of our cfo's. So either you caught one of the girls in a really bad mood or there is someone new there. All my calls to the alberta cfo have been great.

Yeah, we got a crazy ##### like that in Regina too. They are not pleasant to deal with, but a couple shots of brandy sure takes the edges of nicely:p

It looks like you'll be getting your paperwork soon enough, now, go pour yourself a drink and THANK your maker that you ain't married to her. ;) :D

Hey there,

The CFO's are typically pretty good about that. Yeah, every once in a while you get a bad day, but more often than not, you can even go up there and pick it up in person and they'll just ask for your license. I know I do that every time now. That way you can put a face to the voice. Plus they tend to be a little more friendlier.

Vygur: Yes I have had a run in with her also. It is a common name and I think it is Rose or Mary. I had basically the same run around with her, very snarly and couldn't be bothered. She gave me the run around just last month for my ATT that needed to be renewed till the end of my license period(how stupid is that). I finally got it approved and two weeks later I get the same run around from her about my 12(6) that I just bought and she wants to see my paid up membership to the range before she will approve the transfer. HUH? I said I just did that 3 weeks ago when I sent it in for my ATT renewal. Then she really gets huffy and demands that I send it to her again for proof of membership. I then kind of lost it myself and asked her how I was approved for my ATT with the date on it (three weeks ago) if I hadn't sent it in with the renewal form? What is the data base for if it has no data in it? Finally I got the fax number again and when I got home I faxed it to her again and two days later I had the transfer.

Seems like they try and make it harder and harder to do anything in hopes that you will just say F*** it and give it up all together.

It's not Rose, she is very professional and pleasant on the phone and has fixed a few CFC screwups for me very quickly.

She's also shot 12(5) firearms and thinks that it was fun :D

yea most of them are good sometimes u get a bad one i just wait a day then call back again most of them will go out of there way to take car of business

I also found Rose to be very helpful. It probably wasn't her, unless she was having a very bad day.

All I can recommend is:

MAN THE #### UP.

All I can recommend is:

MAN THE f**k UP.

Big +2.

The AB CFO, in my humble experience, doesn't f**k around. They are busy, know that you need the temp. ATT (which as an aside, is complete bollocks in the first place if you already have a long term ATT) and are getting it out to you; what is the discussion all about?

In my opinion you can have it like this: You can either get her working on the ATT or have her opinion on what people on an internet forum think of her work.
