New Shooter - Horrible Experience with Alberta FC!!!

This is Alberta dude, not Bantario. Get some paperwork....any paperwork will do. Crap, hand write it yourself :) Who cares what the hell it says. Keep yer restricted stuff out of sight in the truck while your moving it. Try not to drive like too much of an ass so as to provoke the cops, and go where and when the hell you want :) LOL!!!! No shooting at road signs on Hwy 2 either. Any other roads, ok, as long as your at least 15 minutes outside of Edmonton or Calgary :) LOL!!!! Go Redneck Go!!!

Seriously, you caught someone on a bad day. I haven't had any bad attitudes at all when calling the CFO's office here. It took 3 phone calls to get my lousy short term ATT to the store to spring my last restricted free, but that's the only problem I've had with them. If it hapens again, shoot off a complaint. For now, I'd just write it off to her being rejected by the ugliest guy in the bar last night. :)

You definitely caught someone on a bad day. She broke a nail answering your call, happened to be the same day she was diagnosed with breast cancer, her speculative stock investment cratered, and her husband's lawyer had her served with divorce papers (anyone can see why:eek:).

Seriously, words can't express how totally opposite my experience with them was. I went down in person (maybe that's the key). The lady I dealt with couldn't have been more pleasant. She came outside the bulletproof glass and sat beside me. Put her hand on my knee as she told me not to bother with 90% of the stuff on the form. "Just fill out your name and personal info, and then the last section on the back and sign it", she says. Never asked me if I even had a membership. I didn't ask for it; she offered to make it valid for anywhere in the province.

She was concerned that it might not get completed before my birthday (which was over a month away at the time), so she said she would rush it through the system.

Either Ms Jekyll and Mrs. Hyde work there, or you got the wrong woman on the wrong day.

I have found the Alberta CPFO staff to be very nice and co-operative. I got a male phonejockey the last time I called.

I would not make to much of your expierience, if you raise h*ll they may flag you and give you grief on every transaction.

I worked in a call center during school. A call center taking billing calls for AT&T Wireless, yes American callers. Mostly from florida and georgia. Let me say this... If you end up with a rep who sounds hostile, tell them your house is on fire and hang up. You will get nowhere. You will only end up just as frustrated as them. Only someone who has worked in these environments can understand. Everyone has a breaking point. Even the best reps will lose it. Its not their fault at all, its the nature of the job. Don't blame her, blame the complete ####### who ruined her day. And then your headset beeps again and there's someone else at your throat... It never ends.

Once, I was forced to out a ### teen to his mom because she wanted to know why her phone bill was 300$. I had to explain that the 1-900# he spent 3 hours on the line with was a "male on male chat service".

I've done some things I'm not proud of on the phones, because people provoke you into a complete rage. If an ####### refused to understand and asked for a supervisor, I'd give him my best "Sure, no problem, just a moment sir" and cold transfer them to the spanish department instead. I've done things to their phone accounts that would take an engineer 2 weeks to figure out and fix. At one point, if they were calling from their cell, I would force the phone off the tower so the call would drop.

... and i'm not a bad guy at all. That is how bad joe public will f*ck with your mind. Eventually, EVERYONE CRACKS. Give them a break and call again tomorrow.

I've always heard rose and mary were the best to speak with there and when she told me her name (at the very beginning very quickly) did not sound like such a short name. But she still sounded professional even though it felt like she was rushing the car.

I am pretty well over it now and really thought back to when I worked in a call centre for computer support... supporting computer technicians... It was either they thought they knew more than I did, or I knew more than they did :) so I can understand their position.

It turns out the CFO office here is actually right across my work - one day I may have to go visit them and introduce my self and suck up with some cupcakes from "The cupcake shop" here (suppose to be best cupcakes in Edmonton). LOL

Just got my temp ATT today. Some of you said just fill the form and mail it out to get the long-term ATT? Can you tell me where I can get this form. A link will be appreciated. :)

Sunnyside the Alberta CFO will fax you one if you ask, fill it in and fax it back. If they don't have a copy of your club membership on file, they will ask for a fax of that also.

I got my long term ATT a couple of years ago, but all I had to do was ask for it over the phone, I didn't have to fill out any forms. I've heard things have changed recently, but if I were you, I'd just call them and ask how you get it. I wouldn't doubt if they just pop one in the mail to you.

I'm a little surprised and a bit concerned that someone who legally had to have taken a course to get an RPAL in order to need a short term ATT didn't get that info from their course instructor. In my course I was given the long term ATT form and a cheat sheet to help fill it out properly.

Further, I know we like to be helpful but wouldn't it occur to someone to check the governing authority (CFC) and simply download the proper form? Help is one thing but hand holding is another. If you want to shoot you have to bring the basics to the table. You wonder why sometimes the CFO might have a bad day?

I just got my long term ATT. I filled out the form, and called the land line because I couldn't find their fax number on the net. The lady told me....oh, we just do that over the phone. What's your licence number...name, address, etc. Are you a member of a club???? Yes, two actually......ok, I need a copy of your club membership....could you fax that over?????? Sure I said. It'll be on your fax in 5 minutes. Photocopied both memberships, and faxed them over. Ok. I'll tell the lady who is doing your short term ATT for your restricted transfer that we have it. It took 2 days and 3 phone calls to actually get it faxed to my office, but it did finally get done. I'm sure they've got people on vacation this time of year.

Oh...forget about the cupcakes. I offered to pick up coffee, and she told me that they were not allowed to accept gifts. I told her, neither am I through work, but if someone shows up with free coffee, to hell with the rules!!! :)

When I ordered my first handgun, the Alberta CFC phoned and politely told me I needed to show proof that I was a member of the range. I ran and got my card and faxed it off. She phoned back a couple of hours later, and was satisfied, at that time she also asked if I wanted a long term ATT to travel to all approved ranges, gunsmiths and to the border. I did not even have to ask, she just gave me exactly what I wanted. I have found the CFC to be really nice in Alberta, and the CFO in our area is a great guy too. Every time I phone they are polite and helpful. Hopefully this bad experience won't discourage you, because there are many good people at the CFC, but with good people comes the bad ones as well.

Just my $0.02,
Logan

BC Mike. Rules and laws change. I took my restricted course 10 years ago. There was no dicussion about att's back then. Things change. Courses are different between instructors too. Not everyone is taught the exact same. Just because you know it all dont expect everyone else too. It is a complicated thing to learn when starting out because there is alot to remember. How about instead of getting on people all the time try helping them out.
