New Shooter - Horrible Experience with Alberta FC!!!

The AB CFO, in my humble experience, doesn't f**k around. They are busy, know that you need the temp. ATT (which as an aside, is complete bollocks in the first place if you already have a long term ATT) and are getting it out to you; what is the discussion all about?

The last time I purchased a restricted I was told by the CFC I needed (or rather they needed) the Short term ATT as a paper trail indicating the firearm was moved from the old residence to my residence, and that it was in my best interest? More legal BS I'm sure.

I was told the same thing. Really couldn't understand the need. Seemed like a waste of time and paper. As to the people at the AB office, I never had a problem. Faxed them the info they wanted and copies of both club cards I belong to, one in AB and one in BC. My long term ATT came back covering both. What gets me is that the ATT supplied in BC covers ALL the western provinces from Manitoba to the ocean AND the Yukon as well. A friend lives in BC so went through the BC office and it was supplied without his belonging to a gun club either. These seemingly random differences based upon the whims of whomever is in charge in your province should not exist. They should give out an ATT covering two provinces on either side, the territory to the north, ports of entry and exit and any licenced gunsmith/shop.

Make that

"All of Canada, ports of entry/exit, and any licenced gunsmith/shop".

It's a federal program, isn't it?

:)

I got my long term ATT a couple of years ago, but all I had to do was ask for it over the phone, I didn't have to fill out any forms. I've heard things have changed recently, but if I were you, I'd just call them and ask how you get it. I wouldn't doubt if they just pop one in the mail to you.

Ha, you are right. I didn't mail or fax any application, but yesterday I received a letter from them. Yes, they gave me the ATT that from my home to all shooting ranges, clubs in AB.

I worked in a call center during school. A call center taking billing calls for AT&T Wireless, yes American callers. Mostly from florida and georgia. Let me say this... If you end up with a rep who sounds hostile, tell them your house is on fire and hang up. You will get nowhere. You will only end up just as frustrated as them. Only someone who has worked in these environments can understand. Everyone has a breaking point. Even the best reps will lose it. Its not their fault at all, its the nature of the job. Don't blame her, blame the complete a**hole who ruined her day. And then your headset beeps again and there's someone else at your throat... It never ends.

Once, I was forced to out a ### teen to his mom because she wanted to know why her phone bill was 300$. I had to explain that the 1-900# he spent 3 hours on the line with was a "male on male chat service".

I've done some things I'm not proud of on the phones, because people provoke you into a complete rage. If an a**hole refused to understand and asked for a supervisor, I'd give him my best "Sure, no problem, just a moment sir" and cold transfer them to the spanish department instead. I've done things to their phone accounts that would take an engineer 2 weeks to figure out and fix. At one point, if they were calling from their cell, I would force the phone off the tower so the call would drop.

... and i'm not a bad guy at all. That is how bad joe public will f*ck with your mind. Eventually, EVERYONE CRACKS. Give them a break and call again tomorrow.

So YOU are that guy that I got when I called last time, eh?

I've got to say I've spoken to the Alberta CFO office several times and I did have one conversation that was very similar to the one described at the start of the thread. I think there is one lady who works there who is a bit abrupt.

I was basically asking about getting a long-term ATT to go through BC so I could go to competitions in Idaho and Washington and the response I got was something like: "Why do you want to travel to the US with a HANDGUN, you know you're only allowed to use a HANDGUN for TARGET SHOOTING, right?"

And then I got a lecture about how I would need a Form 6 anyway, so what was the point of getting an ATT, blah, blah. At which point I cut her off and told her I had a Form 6 thank you very much and she said to phone back when I was actually planning on going.

But that was one out of about ten calls I've made, every other time they've been great, but I've never gotten that woman again.
