There are non-shooters who want to learn. There are a lot more existing gun owners looking to learn a thing or two about shooting who would like to shoot on ranges longer than the average gun club.
The Ontario Rifle Association has a program ram-rodded by Ric Melling that inludes winter lectures on subjects like rifle care, wind doping, use of iron and telescopic sights, and handloading.
In the summer he runs a series of "Intro days" where 20 or so newbies come to the range and receive a two hour classroom session and then move onto the range for shooting practice. Practice is 300 yards deliberate, and then some snap shooting to make it real intersting.
All shooting is conducted with ORA-owned 223 rifles purchased for this project. I have seen Savages, Remingtons and Tika T3 on the range. Most carry the Bushnell 10X target scope (3200?)
Each shooter has his own coach for the day.
Shooters with the dedication and drive to make this kind of program work are rare. Few can say "no" when Ric Mellling asks someone to help.
