New shooters

After reading threads and questions in the different forums it is plain to see that many new shooters ask the same questions, as to calibers rifles etc.

One book that explains most everything in plain language is lymans guide to "Big Game Cartridges & Rifles". Wholesale sports carry it ,and i considerate a gem of knowledge for all shooters.

Hopefully this will help new shooters. Mike
 
As a young-gun(27), I think the old boys club should allways offer honest advice and guidence, even if they think they think the youngin won't listen. I'm sick and tired of not being offered any constructive guidence(How many feet I was off that shot(500 yard shot), not I hit the white one beside it(James with the 45-70!!))!! Personally I do want to know exactly what the more experienced shooters think of how I shoot. Also how I can can improve on how I shoot. Honest guidence can only improve the safety and accuracy of the next generation of shooters!! As far as it goes for me, please be honest and tell me what I'm doing wrong, I wish to learn!! Thank-you, or no thank-you if you don't wish to share your knowledge!!

I grew up reading Jack O"Connors and Elmer Keith. It was Ol'Jack's tales of the pre-64 Model 70 that got me to buy one. Hell, I'm still buying them. My gunsmith hero was Parker O. Ackley; used to sure enjoy reading his questions and answers. Another good gunsmith book was by Roy Dunlap. Now that Finn has passed on, Craig Boddington is about the only one I enjoy. But I'm certain more colorful writers will emerge.

But getting back to the Newbies; it's okay for them to ask the same questions over again. It's usely different ones asking the same questions. Nothing wrong with some of us answering these questions either. Get a little talk going and all of us learn some. It's enjoyable. Can't talk to my wife about gun things as she don't know and could care less. Most of the Ol'Boys that I leaned on for information have now passed on. There's only a few left now and most of them are getting up there. Sure my boy enjoys the talk as well, but at eleven he isn't focusing on the mechanics, but more on being able to shoot.

But you know O/F, your right, the ones starting out would enjoy reading some of these books. The book you mentioned sounds like a good one too. But we'll all keep asking and answering cause that what keeps it interesting.

Rod, it was not my intention to stop questions and conversation from newbies. I enjoy the forums and am constantly learning from them.

You are definitely right, there are many good books on the subject and i too like to read anything available to do with shooting sports.

The book i mentioned just impressed me so much i wanted to pass on the info.
