Between slug barrels and the rest, it can go from excellent close in bear defense, to 150 yard deer gun, to upland game, to waterfowl and geese, to flare gun and banger launcher, to passable varmint gun in less than 2 minutes per change. And the cost of barrels is quite affordable for many models of shotgun.
I doubt any other gun around with the exception of the single shot encore platform could possibly be as versatile as the good ole shottie.
