I need some advice. I just purchased and brought home a new mossberg 500 pump action, after taking it out of the box (ensuring it was unloaded) I removed the barrel, and started looking around the gun. With the barrel off I then dry fired the gun. (Again the gun was unloaded). Then like a true male of the species I read the instructions and found out that you should not dry fire the shotgun with the barrel removed.
Did I do anything permanent damage wise?
Now that its properly back together is it safe to fire?
Any advise would be appreciated.

if u did it the one time, it should be allright, I think I did that a few times before i read that in the manual, mine was fine but probably dont make it a habit.

Tried the shotgun out today and it works great. Some hippies gave me some grief about not being at a gun range but I'm fairly sure as long as your in the forestry and shooting in a safe manner I was ok, ie: I had a clear line of sight at what was behind my target (which was a steep forested hill), I had a good back stop (big tree) and I was in an area where there were not a lot of people.(a few hippees on cross country skis) who came out of the forest on a known trail behind me.
Anyways, the shot gun is a little mossberg 500 20 gauge with a 22 inch barrel, it has a wood stock and fore grip and should come in handy for trying my hand at clay pigeon shooting this summer.

Those hippies had some huge balls complaining to a guy with a shotgun.

They werent really complaining, just wondering what I was shooting at and why I wasnt at the range. They were polite actually. Guess I shouldnt post about someones grandmas in such a fashion.
