Im Looking At Getting An Reminton 870 Just Undecided On What Model To Get, Either The Wingmaster Or The Super Mag With The 3 1/2" Chamber, Any Suggestions?

Parts are more interchangeable with the non-3 1/2 model. Therefore, if you are planning to have a more versatile shotty (ie. defense gun, slug gun, bird gun) get the 3" wingmaster. If you're looking for a wingshooter, then the 3 1/2 might be justified (although not entirely necessary).

I've got an 870 Police that I bought from a CGN member off of the exchange. Its got an 18.5 inch barrel with an IC choke, rifle sights and the R3 recoil pad. It's not very fancy to look at but the internals rival that of the wingmaster. Do a google search for Remington LE (stands for law enforcement) and check it out.

My advice would be the Wingmaster if your going with an 870. I handled a really nice new one yesterday at Russel's. Mine is a 1975 vintage and still kills ducks dead.

In a moment of weakness, I bought a new camo Nova. :runaway:

most peopel will do just fine with a 3" rem 870
get a long barrle
as there are lots of companys selling lots of other parts foor them, shorter barrle ,sites , mounts sling stuff ect.

I bought a new 870 supermag once, what a mistake that was with all the jams.. Get the regular 3" model and you'll be set for life.

What are you looking to hunt with it?

My understanding was the 3.5" was built for the purpose of steel shot and waterfowl..

Deer, Upland, or Turkey probably won't care you have that extra .5"

I think you can use anything from 2 3/4 to 3.5 in the Super.

What is the $ diff between the 2 options?

I have a Rem 870 Super mag express. It is the best value I ever bought. It has never once jammed on me, just be careful to make sure you cycle it all the way or you could end up with a double feed. The 870 is from what Ive read the best most reliable action available.

Personally I dont find the recoil on a 3.5" that bad. The only time it hurts is if you jump out of the blind too fast and shot before you get the butt all the way up and you hit your bicep. Even then it doesnt bruise.

My advice, go for the 3.5" chamber:
1) If you dont like you can always use 2.75s or 3s (cant use 3.5s in a 2.75/3)
2) If you find yourself in the field and youve run out and the guy beside you hands you a handful of anything youre covered.

go with the 870 supermag - for 50 bucks more, why not - you will never have to worry in the back of your mind if you wanted a 3.5'

and for the price of a wingmaster - you might as well get a BPS, or my choice, a benelli nova - the nova is practical in a sense it his a button on the fore end which bypasses the mag-tube , which can be useful. plus it comes with three chokes too (the nova that is) - whereas the 870 only comes with a mod, additional chokes from rem are around 30$ a pop.

in sudbury - (which may or may not be a good reference for pricing - hah) a supermag is 449.99 and a nova is 519.99 (this is either 26' or 28' barrel, 3.5')

You're kinda contradicting yourself there.

either way, thats not the case with every 870 supermag, put it this way, remington is a good brand - we all know this - no some like it more than others, and its not my first choice, but i respect them, haha. but seriously, an 870 is a mainstream gun at the average price level. its a good gun, but sometimes any gun from remington comes in with a problem. ex. i ordered in a model 700 .300 rem ultra mag for a guy,and the barrel was bent, from factory. you just got dealt a poor hand from remington, theres the odd problem, but we carry 870's in bulk, and every 50 or 60 of them you sell, theres a minor problem with a least one. put it this way, at least its not a stoeger p350 - we carried 10 of them 2 years ago, they all came back.haha
