Just to be different, FN FiveseveN's.

If anyone is crazy enough to go after them, they're probably going to be wearing armor.

I voted Glock for the reasons KevinB mentioned, but really, I say 1911.

I just love my 1911; they're just damn good and the classic combat auto.

Of course, even I don't think your average security guard should be porting a condition one 1911.

But if it's personal or VIP security, or other operators with some training, I still say 1911.

Flame on.....

Since they are migrating from a revolver training, I would say Glock with NY2 trigger system.

That's what I have on my G17 and it gives about an 8lb trigger which is somewhat comparable to a revolver trigger. I would'nt want their guns to have 3lbs triggers and go oops with the trigger finger on the trigger. The NY2 is heavy but clean and repeatable between shots.

I voted for the Glock, but the Sig would be my second choice if I was running the business.

Upsides:
1. They're cheap compared to many other options.
2. They're reliable.
3. They're available in numerous models to provide variety for carry and use needs.
4. They're light and well suited for prolonged carry.
5. Parts are plentyful.
6. Double action is comparable to the revolver and well suited to less experienced shooters.

Downsides:
1. THEY"RE FUGLY!
2. The DA reset does take some getting use to compared with a SA.

I'd carry a 1911 myself, but it's not a particularly safe and cost effective option for less experienced employees.

I don't know if prohib is OK in that case but my vote would be SIG P229R DAK if it's possible, P226R DAK if it aint.
or
FNH five-seven might be a good idea actually...

A heavy pull is a good idea. RCMP S&W's have about a 9lb trigger pull. It's a good safety feature.

A revolver, while old fashioned, will never jam up like a pistol in a time of need. Keep that in mind.

Will you be selling the revolvers off cheap. I hope so. I would go for the Glock because they're resonably cheap, parts are every where and they're idiot proof to operate.

Had a Model 10 jam up solid on me at an IDPA match.
No trigger, cylinder locked up solid. Couldn't open the cylinder either.

Mind you it had just fired 120 rounds of dirty old reloads.
Old Higginson powder , apparently was very dirty.

For the same reasons as KevinB, Glock. On top of his reasons, since your guys will never actually have to use their sidearms, the greatest risk they have is corrosion - and glocks are well known to deal with that risk.

I choose the Sig although the M&P runs a close second. The Sig gives you utter reliability in .40cal. The drawback is the limitation in adjusting the grip size, you can use the short trigger and thinner grips.

The M&P is still fairly new and there has been some issues, but SW seems eager to fix things and would likely give you a good deal on a bulk buy. The loaded chamber port, mag safety and changeable grips are all pluses for a business.

I will second the Blackhawk Serpa holster, secure, fast and easy to use. It is a level II holster, but I thin they are also making a level III version now. I have the Serpa for the M&P and the 226, just love it!!

From an economical and functional point of view, you'd probably want to go with something that suits everyone easily, cost effective(purchase plus maintenance/parts).

I love Sigs P22x pistols....but I dare say the Sig Pros would be a good choice. Cheap in the US, interchangeable grips, reliable etc..

Glock is always an easy choice...as well.

No one else agrees on a Sig Pro?
