New Sig Mosquito

Agree... sell it and buy a better one. Browning Buckmark, Ruger Mk III/2245, GSG 1911, CZ Kadet, Sig Caliber Xchange series in .22. GSG 1911 offers the best warranty in a .22 pistol.
I have physically witnessed this failure in our range almost 2 yrs ago.

My advice would be sell it and buy a different .22.....

The OP has already bought the gun,I would suggest trying it out with standard velocity ammo and see what happens.
It is possible the maker has addressed the slide problem on the new production guns and the thing might run like a champ.
I would be interested to know how well it works right out of the box.

Like I said, mine eats any ammo now and runs like a champ. That being said, it gets dirty fast and that can cause issues. Better quality ammo helps but .22LR seems to be crap ammo to start with. I did the exact same mod on a GSG 1911 and it works great now too.

I like the look of the Sig, that's why I got it. I don't really care that it needed some help to be reliable.

Used one for a probation shoot at the club.. jammed up like crazy. I have a GSG 1911 no issues yet.. Supposed to run only on high velocity rounds, I use CC1 stingers.

If it works with standard velocity ammo I'd probably stick with that. If you run hyper velocity stuff with a weaker slide you'd be at a higher risk of breaking the gun. Even if it's covered under warranty it's still a pain. Different guns are tuned for different ammo.

You should try it with a couple different ammo types and if it runs well for you I wouldn't try any fixes until you actually have a problem. If it ain't broke...

Enjoy the new gun :)

I do believe newer models have an upgraded slide and are not supposed to crack anymore, I bought a used older model that was already broken and tried to repair it only to have it fail in another spot, I do love the look and feel of these pistols and am currently on a waiting list for a replacement slide, Once I get it I plan to give the pistol a second chance, Here's a link to my thread if you are interested.

This is correct; the slide metallurgy has been changed - meaning the slides should no longer separate. The slide breaking is a known issue, and completely covered under warranty.

When did they change? It would handy to be able to say that Mosquitoes produced after such and such a date, or in a serial number range starting with number X, should be ok. Prior to that, you're taking your chances.

+1 must be a recent hidden program as SIG did not help me with mine a year ago.. a lot of if and or buts I assume..
