Hi All,

Have you seen the new Sig P320?

Based on the description of the pistol, I personally believe it will be the new Canadian Forces pistol. I believe they pre-selected the P320, then put out the requirements based on the specification of the P320. Why you ask, because there was a post which was sourced from a thread at Army.ca which listed the apparent requirements which were part of the SOR in 2012 or so.

Here they are, read them then watch the new Sig P320 video on youtube.

1. Full Size, DAO Trigger
2. Current NATO Service + 2 years
3. 9mm
4. Magazine >13rds, >15rds is better
5. Unloaded weight + empty magazine must be < 950g
6. Barrel must be 102mm or longer
7. Trigger pull must be between 4-8 lbs
8. Ambidextrous magazine release
9. Must not need to pull the trigger to disassemble
10. No magazine safety
11. No safety devices to manipulate
12. Must have an M 1913 accessory rail
13. Trigger pull weight must be consistent every Shot.

Couple of things I noticed. The bore axis has not been improved despite the potential, it weighs 29.4 oz with empty mag which is heavier than I expected, and it is priced higher than the hammer fired p250 which surprised me a little. The rest, pretty much standard sig stuff.

That program was ended there are no plans to change pistols in the near future. And when the program was active no companies submitted anything

As it stands, nothing decent will become the new CF pistol because of the downright insulting demand that the trade secrets of the manufacturer be given up so the pistol can be made in Quebec.

Here's a chance for some enterprising upstart to design a pistol and sell it to the government.

Not sure how the SIG P320 qualifies as it isn't in NATO service that I can find...

British Army replaced their Brownings with Glock... Swiss replaced their Sigs with Glock... I believe we too will join the Glock party...

Glock will never allow Colt (under ANY guise) access to it's proprietary secrets. I can't see any company doing that for a small order, like the CF requirement. The requirement was ended because no company submitted any candidate pistols.

That just looks like a striker fired P250 as mentioned earlier, I use to own a P250 the second generation one and it was a fantastic pistol except the trigger took alot to get use too. Anyways I did speak with a colt representive at CAFSAC 2013, and asked about the new GSP and he did confirm that they were back on the drawing board with this one, mind you that was in september so who knows now.

I hate sig but god do I hate glock even more LOL I think I will remain happy knowing I have a browning high that I can throw at my foe or beat them with lol

I think this is a great idea.
I like the fact that the serialized part is the metal frame not the polymer frame, so you can have several ones (they go for $100 a piece or less).
The only thing stopping me from the buying the 250 was the stupid DAO hammer trigger, this striker fire is a great idea and a great concept. I like it, I would buy one.

Sig could have a world beater in that pistol, but they have to make those "non gun" components available - long/mid/short slides and barrels and compact, mid and full size grip units. It would be great for example to be able to get a compact frame with a mid length slide and a 4.2 barrel, and be able to change it to a full size pistol for a match, but keep the same trigger pull.

Got to ask why you hate Sig? I have a 226. Shoots accurately, very reliable, personal preference I know but I think it looks good but not great. If my life depended on it this is the gun I would prefer to have on me. Maybe they are not you preference but Hate doesn't seem rational to me. Personally don't like the looks of a Glock and the grip angle seems a bit odd but you can't fault their reliability. Note I also have 3 Rugers and an older Sauer so I am not a SIG nut. Would like a CZ but don't have the money right now. I just don't get the Hate any gun comments.

Wrong... They were going to be made by Colt Canada which can be found in Kitchener Ontario.

Interesting, did you hear why it ended?

The MERX page said it all. The GSP project was nuked a good 3-4 years because nobody would hand over their TDP to Colt Canada for an order of 10,000 pistols or so.

Not according to the specs demanded by the CAF. The trigger must be pulled to disassemble a Glock.

Care to explain or validate what it is you hate about Glocks and SIGs?

SIG used to make quality pistols that are drop dead reliable. The downsides are the exposed hammer, the DA/SA trigger, weight, dimensions, and cost.

Not according to the specs demanded by the CAF. The trigger must be pulled to disassemble a Glock.

One of the dumbest requirements I have ever seen. Obviously many feel depressing the trigger without dumping a round into yourself or someone else is far too difficult for MIL or LE types to accomplish. If that is indeed the belief, then issuing a firearm to said folks is even less intelligent. The take down method of any pistol is not and should not be a selection criteria. Safe operation of any tool is a training issue not a design issue.

As for the P320, it offers nothing revolutionary over current market offerings. In fact, its heavier, bulkier and costs a lot more than a Glock or M&P.

Aye. One of the many questionable requirements of the GSP specs.

And exactly why it was canned.
The CF (most of it anyways) will continue to use the Inglis in the near future.
By making their requirement for the GSP so ridiculous, they saved millions of $$$. The fate of this program was known before it was cancelled.

The CAF and SIG have a good history. Glock would be another excellent choice. But remember, the next CF pistol will not be made by colt Canada.
