I had a look for the first time today in years at a Ruger Mini 14 and like the looks of the new ( New to me as I haven`t paid attention to a Mini in years) Military style front sight and Allen screw adjusted rear sight. What is your guys opinions and experiences with them.

They are a little wide for my liking, I was not happy with the sight picture. I shoot an Enfield, so I guess I am a little spoiled.

I put a 4 x 32 scope on the rifle (open sight as backup) and the difference is substantial.

reports are that they shoot much better than older versions. They're still not precision guns but most seem to hold at least 2 MOA with factory ammo. YMMV, this is just what I've read on the newer 580 series minis. Ruger retooled and tightened tolerances as well as using a different, heavier barrel on the new series according to a article I read in a gun rag. There is also the "Target" version with heavy barrel and harmonic barrel dampener that is said to hold MOA with the right ammo.

I owned a target version and sold it just a quick. Big disappointment. It was too fussy with ammo and that heavy barrel begins at the gas port. From the chamber to the gas port it is just the same as the Ranch rifle. Kinda like a pickle with a toothpick sticking out the back.

I Bought a New Ranch rifle. Put a Butler Creek Stock on it and working up 68 gr win bullet loads. Not bad so far.

What did you pay for the stock?
