Been reading a lot on here on the SKS rifles. Thanks a lot to Curtton and all the others for posting good, practical info on these things. I've never owned a center fire semi before, and was kinda on the fence about buying one of these, realised that I needed info! So here i came. Thanks guys, your posts regarding this have helped another gunnut into semi auto goodness!

And it's a 1952 Tula refurb, with a laminated stock, numbers matching, seems in good shape. I gotta get out and give it a run! Not bad for $195 before tax.

I was gonna get an 858, but cheapness and the threads on here sold me on an SKS. For a third of the cash.w:h:

Good place to start.Give it a couple of weeks (maybe a bit more) then you will be lusting for a CZ 858. Its the way to go for a 7.62 X 39.I know,I've been there. Three SKS's two SKS-D's and then the CZ 858.Could have skipped the first two, but then where would the fun and learning be.Enjoy

Congrats!! I'm still awaiting mine in the mail. Should be here tomorrow. I agree completely about the amount of gun you get for roughly $200!! You can't beat that deal. Good job!

Just got mine today! $169+tax&ship=$214 for a 1954 Russian Tula refurb. Looks nice. Excited! First rifle, so I'm a little nervous about the assembly/disassembly but I will learn. I'm surprised the trigger is so soft. Feels good. I definitely need to read some tutorials and check some youtube vids.

Were's the refurb mark?
Do you see a diamond with a line threw it?
I can even still see the proof stamp on the front of the wood stock.
How is this rifle's magazine pinned?

That is one sweet looking 51 - please don't Bubba it! If, down theroad, you feel the need to do something stupid, please go get a chinese or black bolt to mangle.

Got it from Weimajack. It says 1954r on receiver but 1951r on stock. I'm not sure where the refurb mark is supposed to be. Was told it was "54 Tula refurb, not frankenpinned, #'s matching, re-numbered solid stock".

It seems like I can see the bottom of the refurb mark on your last picture of the receiver cover. I can just make out the > symbol. (with the the points of it length ways on the rifle). Very nice rifle you picked up there. The refurb stamp should be <> or [/]. looks like you have the <>

X2

The Tula's are beautiful SKS's. Almost as nice as the Yugos, IMHO. Don't try to make it an "AK".

Don't worry. You'll soon get an 858. You'd be silly not too. :D
