Well I finally did it. I went and picked up my SKS. I don't know if they are legal in Canada or not so sorry if you're jealous in advance  He had set one aside but when I saw it it was a little grungy looking I changed my mind. It looked like it had been dipped in sap and rolled in sawdust. So I looked at a few others he had and found a NICE looking Norinco (Chinese) SKS sitting behind all the rest :) He was asking $350 for it. I got another case of ammo and a few stripper clips while I was there too. Enjoy the pics.

Nice SKS! Is 350 the going rate for Norinco SKS's down there? I payed 180 for my brand new Norinco SKS. You could get a decent SKS-D or decent Yugo for 350 in Canada.

Yup I paid exactly $350 U.S. for it. There was a Russian SKS he had for like $150 bucks cheaper, but it looked like a piece of crap. This one called my name, she is a beauty :)

I'm assuming they are legal up there?

norico's are more than russians???

The Russian one was a little over $200... but like I have said it looked like it was dipped in sap, rolled in sawdust, the wood was horrible, dinged up, dark, the metal had signs of previous rust and was dull. It looked like crap.

The Chinese SKS was immaculate. For $350, I took it. It was too perfect to pass up. Hey a Commie gun is a Commie gun is is not?

Yup, there still legal up here, for now..

Nice rig, looks like mine, only I bought mine 14 years ago. Not for that price though.

The big thing is that your happy with your purchase and the price you paid for it. They are a really fun rifle for plinking with and lot of guys that own them say they can take a deer out to 200 yds. with them given the shooting practice time has been put in. Ammo for it is not that expensive. Especially military surplus if you can get your hands on it. Or at least here in Canada it is. Can't say about there.

Read the posts here in Red Rifle forum. You can learn a lot about these toys here. Many fellow CGNers own one, or two of them. If you have any questions about the gun , don't be afraid to post it here. There's a good chance someone here will have an answer.

My serial number is #39116. I must have a newer one.

Can I get a scope for it? It doesn't look like there is a scope mount unless they make attachments for one.

7.62x39 isn't bad now. I picked up 2000 rounds for about $400. I also picked up 500 .223 rounds for my M4 for about $150. I do know here soon it won't be that way. Obama plans on increasing the ammo and gun tax by 500%... and banning imports of common "assault rifle" rounds like .223 and 7.62x39.

So now we can get it, but possibly not soon... at least not easily.

And restricted to 5-round mags...:(

Right now I have two 10 round stripper clips. I know the magazine assembly can be taken out and it will accept regular AK magazines. I've bought plenty of 30 and 40 round mags before they ban those too...

Have I mentioned I don't like Obama, Reid, Shumer or an other far left anti- freedom Marxist?

$350 for a Norc? Must be for the unpinned factory 10rounder ;)

Looks good and you(i assume) don't have to clean that damn cosmoline off it.

Edit: Sorry buddy, by the looks of it, it will not accept AK magazines. Only the SKS-D model will accept AK magazines, and your's looks like the standard non-detachable model.

Hmm... I was tinkering with it at the store and he was pretty sure that it took AK mags because the whole receiver comes out. I'll have to go back and get the manual tomorrow. He said it got lost somewhere in the store, but he'll give me a call once he finds it.

I'll get a few pics of the mag well and open it up and let you guys take a look. As for now I'm off to bed, I'll get the pics up tomorrow.

Nope, that one has the stock 10 round magazine. It does come out relatively easily (the whole thing is actually very easy to take apart, you only need a FMJ cartridge as a tool :D) but it's not easily converted to take detachable magazines.

The SKS-D variant will take them, but those are a lot less common.

Enjoy your new toy. I love my Yugo.

They make spare receiver covers that are made with a integral rings, but lots of guys don't like it as each time you unassemble your rifle, the zero changes.

You would be better off getting a side mounted mount and if I remember correctly, Choat makes a pretty cool one.

As for remouvable mags, you can always install the duck bill magasine insert that replaces the floor plate mag that you have.

pro2a : sorry to inform you , like all the others here said, AK mag will not fit in your regular SKS . you need a SKS-D for that .

$350 for a norinco sounds pricey but i will admit i dont know the pricing in your region however the wood is the best i seen .

BTW: what factory is it from?
