New SKS!!

Lots of hot water and Simple Green and the cosmoline was gone! Took about 2 minutes to disassemble. Might refinish the stock later. Hope to take a deer with it this year if it is a 75m or closer shot.

I got my SKS from Marstar about a month ago. having the chrome lined barrel makes cleaning a breeze.

Remington Action Cleaner. That is all that I used. On everything, including the stock and it did not harm the stock at all.

2&4 hrs to clean a sks wow you guys are slow. Just did my friends sks completly stripped and did wolf spring kit in an hr.

agreed, i did mine really quick too. but just wait til youre inna woods on a hot summer day having some steel cased iron sight fun. it will start coming out of the stock. there are some good videos on youtube about sweating it out or just refinishing the stock which is a fun weekend project

Really hot tap water and Simple Green is all you need. The metal parts squeek when you dry them. Completely oil and grease free. Dishwasher soap sometimes has a funny reaction with some metal types, especially aluminum.

I prefer to avoid solvents of any kind. Really cleaning cosmoline off is very simple. steel trash can + 100 watt lightbulb = easy bake oven, and the cosmo drips off off of it. 3 hours later, puddle at the bottom, clean gun.

Good idea.

Or on a hot day (like today in central Ontario), field strip, wrap in a pile of newspaper or old rags, put it in a couple of black garbage bags, and put it out in the sun for a couple of hours. Change out the paper/rags once or twice. Wipe and clean. Et voila!
