I have a brand new S&W Model 629 .44 mag with the 4.2 inch barrel. I bought it brand new about 1 1/2 months ago. There seems to be some sort of rattle if I shake or rock the gun back and forth. It makes the noise when the hammer is cocked or uncocked. Any suggestions or ideas? Is this a serious problem or something that could become a serious problem? The gun seems fine when dry firing it but have not shot it yet.

My 629-5 Classic rattles. The cylinder latch screw loosening will add extra rattling to what is normal. The rear sight blade is a normal source of rattle as are the internal moving components... my 686-6 and 17-4 (with the exception of the latch screw loosening with the latter) have the same light rattle as the 629. Mass produced, and to work without binding, parts will always have play.
