Was thinking about picking up a Snider for a while now, and I finally found a full wood 3 bander for a decent price. Haven't cleaned it up any yet (the brass nose cap is just about the same colour as the wood stock) but the bore looks great, so I'm hoping it'll be a shooter. Now I'm just trying to find out where she's been. Any help with the markings would appreciated.

DC in a diamond means Dominion of Canada, Congrats Canadian owned.
The 1859 is the year of manufacture. Originally made by Enfield lock armory, conversion done by London Arms Company LAC logo. Barrel and action is iron. The **II is the model of snider conversion typical of the model bought by Canada. It was originally a muzzleloader 1853 pattern. The marks on the butt plate are for a regt, Canadian or not I don’t know right now.

Don't buff the brass, you have an original with nice patina, Just wipe the wood down with boiled Linseed oil and clean the metal with 3in1 oil or plain oil. Add to the patina.

Snider Regimental Marking

Hi, found the number in an old book.Handbook of indentification marks on canadian arms. Lists 61 as The Montmagny and L'Islet Battallion 1869 to 1900. Other number is a rack number or rifle issue number.
