Working down in Texas, Arkansa and Oklahoma has opened my eyes to eating a variety of new food that I would have never considered before..... I've mastered (ok proficient) shucking mudbugs and making Andouillie sausage and surprisingly tree rats are damn tasty treats so what better excuse to buy a headshot only rig. Had to spread the pain out a bit and will get the Swaro Z5 3.5-18 in the beginning of March. For the interim, a Leupy 3-9 EFR will have to suffice.

I will have to trick the wife and say it's hasenpfeffer at first and then maybe after some wine, spring the truth. No heads like some of my diehard workmates tho....

Weird getting old, getting you last of's and handing stuff down from the safe - gave away 5 .22's yesterday, from warm hands and all that lol......

Def. a good choice squirrel rifle with that Annie 1712 and some nice figure in the stock. The Z5 should really compliment it too.

That is a terrific squirrel hunting rifle. In my part northern Ontario we usually don't get the grey (sometimes black) squirrels that are the basis of the squirrel recipes that so many enjoy, especially south of the border. I don't think red squirrels qualify as legal game in Ontario.

Correct, reds are protected.

Nice rifle! Eating tree rats.....no thanks.

You have to try it!

I agree.

I like to shoot the squirrels that poach from the bird feeder, but treerat burgers are not on the menu.

Try it! Tree chickens aint bad!

Tree rats taste great!

This guy knows!

On a side note, BEAUTIFUL rifle!

my spaniel would love it if I were to shoot those squirrels when he chases them up a tree but I don't think I want to eat one. Are the ones you see in southwestern Ontario any good to eat? Not that I want to try

Squirrel is ####ing dilicious if you cook it right!
The 'Berta squirrels are too tiny to even bother with sadly.
Not those big fat delicious grays back in the woody hills of Quebec and Ontario :(
We used to shoot a bucket full. We got so fast at skinning, gutting and quartering them it was down to 3 mins a head lol
If you quarter the shoulders and thighs and marinate them for a while then cast iron bake them in the oven well done you end up with little tasty squirrel wings

Yes, big ol fox squirrels. My lab loves it. He will zone in on one I can send him out to tree it or make him stand till I shoot it then he will dive after it lol.

Epic fudd pimp cane shooting stick, rich textured wood stock .22 and squirrel burgers... this man is legend damnit. Prove me wrong.

That's a very nice 22 rifle . out of this guys price range . but I find it ironic I was thinking a nice Savage would be in my price range and lo and behold on the next page I found one . to tell you the truth I have never ate any of those critters but have heard they are delicious. but from what I have read they are high in cholesterol and that info came off a US website where they were calling them branch chickens. I heard a buddy of mine likes to shake and bake them . I'm going to have to try them sometime . I know of people who have eaten Racoons and a porcupine . I saw the racoon being eaten and I opted out. that was many years ago . they have Rabies in my area now so I wouldn't even think of it now . PS all parties were drunk eating the racoon at that time .

There are huntable populations of grey squirrels (and black colour phase) within an hours drive of Sudbury, I get out a few times each year. The red squirrel is protected from hunting only as it is classified as a "furbearer" and can be taken under a licence to trap... as a kid, I thought a squirrel was a squirrel, and shot and ate hundreds of red squirrels... they are good BTW, years later I discovered they were considered furbearers, and was chagrined, and also thankful that I did not get spot checked with my limit of reds! That was 40 years ago, so the statute of limitations should be up on that faux pas.

Nice rifle but I'm not too sure about the tree rats. I'll take your word for it that they are good.
