So I bought my first plastic gun today, a Glock 17 G4, from a retail storefront. He tries to initiate a quick transfer (they've been known to get an statt within an hour via email) the statt is no longer 30 days, one only. Now because of a combination of my work schedule and their store hours this gets complicated. I girds from now on I'll just stick to buying guns online. Can't wait to get my paws on that Glock though :)

They are indeed only valid for 1 day but it also only takes a 15 minute call to have them e-mail it to you...here in AB anyways. I've bought, traded and sold 6 handguns in the last 45 days and I have had them (the approving CFO) e-mail me the transfer notifications as soon as they were approved. I called them (AB CFO) for STATTs to drop them off and or picke them up from the post office...all STATTs were e-mailed to me with 30 minutes of dialing the CFC's phone number.

They're so used to people calling three times a day checking on their transfer they assume you will only need the one day to grab it once it's approved. :)

Just call them and tell them you can't get to the store right away and they'll issue one to your liking.

I've had temp ATTs for a two week period.

BC issues them by email based in the call. I had one within 15 minutes after hanging up and had it printed to take with me about a minute later.

The real issue is the wait time on hold to get to a person that can initiate the STATT.

My last STATT was good for the month of February 08:00-23:59 7 days a week, but only good for one trip.

When BC was mailing them out that's what they were good for here too. Too many variables in terms of mail delivery and when the person can get over to the seller's house to pick up so they opened up the window of opportunity.

But now that they are finally emailing them out they seem to want to cut it down to a specific day.

It must differ slightly from province to province.

I know in Alberta for the last 20 years they would issue them and they would just be for the one day, that day.
But I'm sure that is just person specific, whenever if called years ago I'd get them to fax it to me for immediate pick up.
No I get the email from them on my phone before I even get off the phone with them.

I'd imagine if a fella asked for a longer one they probably wouldn't care nor mind.

I remember my very first one and it was very specific.
Only this day, between these exact times, begin!

Well the Manitoba CFO issued me a STATT that was valid for 30min. Small town so it didn't matter too much. All in all them requiring me to get a permission slip to take my hand gun home from the post office was pretty absurd.

i hear ya.
specially considering my LATT lets me take my toys to any range in AB at any time of the day for 5 years.
(and gunsmith and border crossing)

but taking a gun from the local post office 2 blocks home requiring a separate one, that does seem a little silly.

but then i think the problem is we are trying to use logic to explain something that the government is doing.

I just picked up my first AR-15 this week, The transfer was completed on February 5th or something like that but we have both been busy since then.

They sent my paperwork in the mail with my STATT for 30days to my house and it made it here within 3 days of starting the transfer :) Cant beat that! The only thing odd about mine was its only good from 7am to 11pm, like the gun gets more dangerous at night? :S hahah silly

Also for the record, I did not ask for a 30 day STATT, thats just what I was given, Im in Ontario

On the phone yesterday when initiating the statt, she said she couldn't do it the same day because of a backlog on orders and guns sold that day. I phoned today and got it all dealt with lol. All is good, got me a Glock
