I was thinking of buying a new Ruger hawkeye in .300 win mag and replacing the stock with a hogue. I looked on the hogue website and all the stocks are for the model 77 mk11. Are the stocks interchangable to the hawkeye? Also is the stock with the full aluminum bedding block worth the extra $150? ($300 retail) Any comments or suggestions appreciated.

Take a look at the ruger site. I think you might be able to get the hawkeye with a hogue stock as a factory option (I don't know why you would want one but hey). If not, a stock from a MkII will fit as they are the same action.

yes

IMO no, you are trading one mediocre stock for another.

if you are looking at the Hawkeyes check out the rest of the Ruger M77 MkIIs, you might be able to find one with a stock you like more.
all new Rugers have the LC6 trigger, and aside from some very minor differences in the stock and finish theyre all the same gun.

I've got the Hogue stock on a MKII model 77 and I must say that it's the ugliest, but absolutely most comfortable-holding, best-handling stock I've ever used. The aluminum bedding block version (mine) is super stiff, but be warned that it is heavy. I haven't weighed it but I would bet that it increases the rifle weight by a full pound over the original wood stock. Also, the finish of the rubber over-moulding is a high-friction, almost sticky type of surface. It picks up a lot of dirt and debris, shows a lot of small marks. The supplied recoil pad is very soft, feels almost like a Limbsaver, works well. This stock'll never be a showpiece, but from a functional standpoint it's great.

Mine required the removal of a tiny bit of material from the front of the barrel channel to produce the free-floating that it is supposed to. As the previous poster stated, the mkII version should fit the Hawkeye.
