I have a Savage Model 12 FLVSS and am wanting to replace the junky synthetic stock that is came with. I was wondering if anybody new somewhere in canada that sells replacement stocks for my make and model of rifle. I rather not deal with the paper work of export permits of buying and shipping a stock out of the US.

Thx in advance

For synthetics, the only really decent ones for the savage short actions are the HS precision and McMillan....both pricey $200US-$400US.
The choate and bell & carlson are not much better than the plastic crap it came in....but someone will chime in saying they are great....about $125-$200CAD and you can find them in canada.
I like laminates so I went with a boyds varmint stock. They are out of the US but no paper work required as they are unfinished and under $100US. The barrel channel had to be opened up which was a bit of work, other than that final sanding and finish and that's it, drops right in.

We bring in stocks from McMillan etc...Brownells and can bring one of your choice in. Brownells carrys a line which has reasonable prices but I haven't had one in the shop yet to comment on quality etc.. Nice selection though. In Canada you could try Ian Robertson if he has a style that suits your taste.

Natchez Shooter Supply down in the states has Bell and Carlson for $89.99. You would be hard pressed to find someone who could tell the difference between it and a HS. Ask anyone that knows whether they have an HS or a bell and Carlson on their Remingtons. You have to take the stock off to tell.

Hitzy, thats a nice stock you got there. I love vented stocks. As for the Natchez, i thought they wouldn't ship to Canada. It doesn't look as though HS has a stock that fits the Savage action, at least according to the website. The other hard part is getting the left hand configuration.

Contact a gunsmith to order the stock you want, when it comes in send him your rifle so he can properly bed the action to the new stock. This way he worries about the paperwork and you end up with an excellent product. By the way, I've got 2 McMillan's and they are worth every penny.
