I have a new Stevens 200 short action in .223, and I would like to put a new stock, preferably wood with a cheek piece, on it. I know this gun is interchangeable with some savage parts, but which Savage model is the stock compatable with?
Any suggestions on where to get a decent stock?

Just don't like the stock.

Don't quote me on this but I believe that any short action savage stock for the pre accutrigger models will fit the stevens barreled action

don't mind me. just entering a reply so i can get e-mail updates on this forum as it is something i am interested in to

The Boyd's JRS Classic 503-052 and 403-052 (laminate nutmeg or pepper) will fit your 200.

The Richard's Microfit is also a nice stock.

If the Stevens 200 is not listed, then the Savage SA model 10 with blind mag is the one to choose. You do not need an import permit for anything under $100.00, but please don't take my word for it. Both website have contact information, call them and see for yourself. The ordering information and what I just said is also stated on Boyd's website.

Just as a side note, if your willing to put a bit of work in it, the fugly Stevens stocks lend themselves to bedding, stiffening and painting into a real nice finished product. There are a lot of discussions and pictures in this forum.

Thomana, what exactly is it you don't like about the stock? Is it the function or the look of it?

It's the feel. Call me a staunch traditionalist, but I like the feel of wood. Now, that being said, my Macmillan tactical stock on the .308 is beautiful!:)

I have found out that the stevens 200 action will fit into any stock made for savage 10,11, or 12 short actions.

I've been looking for a reasonably priced (i.e. less than $600 delivered) one for my Stevens. So far, I'm still looking.

Be careful with just ordering one for a Savage 10. The action mounting screws on the new Stevens are a touch wider spaced than on the old Savages. If you go to w w w.sharpshoootersupply.com, they have a very good technical note (look under their Tech. Updates button on the left).

SSS is also a great source for Stevens and Savage parts - I've just installed a new bolt handle and trigger from them and I'm waiting on my scope rings to get this baby to the range.

Be careful when asking about and ordering your stock - be clear about the action length and the spacing between the mounting screws.

I can't find a good enough stock that fits under the $100.00 import limit. If you do, please let us all know.

Cheers and good luck.

I have a stock on order from Richard's. Their website says 10-13wks they are currently double that and I still don't have my stock. I've called twice in the past 2 months and each time I get "It will be shipped this week".

I guess I will get it when I get it.....

The price is good though $104USD delivered for the cascade classic laminate.

It'll take 3 weeks just to get across the boarder. It took 2 months for them to make it and ship it. Ordered mid Dec and received it in late Feb. It's worth the way IMO.

You've obviously never seen and held one. It's about as cheap as plastic parts can get. I love mine, but that grey abortion it's currently sitting in, will need to be replaced one day.

Nope, can't say that I've ever seen one in real life. From your description,I'll have to search one out now. Never really paid much attention to non-wood stocks.
