I bought a used Savage model 10 in 308 with 20" hbar (non-accu-stock) the other day and first trip to the range with some various handloads looks very promising. I got a couple groups that were slightly under moa with 155grSST's and Varget and figure with some development those could shrink even more.
So, my question is that since the factory stock is just that cheap flimsy POS that Savage throws on their rifles it should be the first thing I look into upgrading. I think that a bedding job and trying to stiffen up the original stock is probably a waste of time so I'm looking around for replacements.
So far the best option I have come up with without spending a fortune is to go with the thumbhole varmint laminate stock from Boyds.
Does anyone have any other ideas for places to look or any feedback on the Boyds stock to either push me to or away from it?

Thanks

for the price of a stock from boyds.....you can't beat them, but if you want something task specific like a benchrest stock...they don't cater to us

Try Richards micro fit stocks ...they don't have a price limit shipped from the states( they ship them tagged wood sporting goods ) and you can get what you want in a heavy precision stock ..need to do some finish work and minor inletting to get them to fit ..but its worth the 150$ price for a laminate wood stock

Ordered the Varmint Thumbhole from Boyd's 2 days ago. Now I just need to decide where to take it for bedding once it gets here and It's off to the range to try it out.
