new SVT, somethings not right

got this for Christmas, took it down to clean and found this:

Is that the recoil spring assembly? Looks like the spring has been compressed and stuck on a shoulder area of the guide

Something is stuck, try pulling it apart.

just gently wiggling it back and forth i have a feeling the spring is caught somewhere, it should be two pieces withe the spring inbetween, try boiling hot water and pouring it on it then try seperating

Your recoil spring is stuck. Clean it and un stuck it carefully so parts wont fly all over the room

A couple taps and some safety goggles may do the trick. If not add a little heat and penetrating oil

Heat might not be the best idea because im pretty sure springs are heat treated and that might ruin the spring and i dont think theres many spares out there.


Be carful when you take them apart and maybe take it part with it in a clear bag maybe.

Thanks dso far, I'm going to soak it in Kroil and put it in a ziplock bag for now.

Looks like there's a fair bit of force wound up there, you might want to double bag it.
