[NEW] Three Position match – Need testers!!

Hi guys, I am hoping to start up a new three position (kneeling, standing, and prone) to add to the online matches on here and am looking for some people to try out the match and see how it works. I have several different targets that can be shot at either 20, 25, or 50 yards and would like to hear some feedback on how the targets worked (i.e if you are using peep sights how was the sight picture, or is the target to difficult to shoot because the 10 ring is too small, etc).

Here are some variables to how you can shoot the match -

*** Note - page scaling should be set to "none". On my printer on the first target (ISSF 2) with black scoring rings out to 7 the 7 ring measures about 3" in diamter.

Target 1: http://cherrytwist.googlepages.com/Target_ISSF_2.pdf
Distance: 20 OR 25 yards (which one will work best?)

Target 2: http://www.uspalma.com/Targets/PDFs/75FT NRA.pdf
Distance: 20 OR 25 yards (which one will work best?)

Target 3: http://www.uspalma.com/Targets/PDFs/50yd NRA.pdf
Distance: 50 Yards

So here are the rules

Rifle: A rimfire rifle with any design single shot or repeater may be used.

Sights: Sights are recommended. Your choice (scope or open sights)

Equipment: No ISSF type of shooting jacket, pants, or boots may be used. A sling will nto be allowed either.

Time limit: 20 minutes per 10 shots

Maximum score: 300-30X

Course of Fire: Shoot 10 shots prone, 10 shots kneeling, and 10 shots standing at each target (10 shots per target). No supports will be allowed (no sandbags in prone, or posts in standing, etc). You may use some sort of rest to rest the gun on AFTER each shot – but not during the shot. The highest ring the bullet touches is the point(s) you get. If the shot touches the X you get a “10X” For the 75 foot smallbore target there is no X ring.

If the shot misses the bull all – together the shot scores a “0”. No addition “make-up” shot may be

If you are unsure how to shoot in the following positions here are some guides to help you :)

** These instructions are mainly for use with a sling but the same basic principles apply

So If I could get some testers to try out the match, weather it be just one or if you really want to all three that would be great. Just please post back here with maybe your score if you want as well as details on how the match worked, was it too difficult, did it take to long, etc.

Big thanks to Ebruder, _Shorty, and everybody else who commented and helped get this thing set up so far!

Cat; I thought the SFC rules were just a bit to long and confusing for some (for example, the SFC sporting rules are 26 pages long). What i did though is go to the hunter class rules and used certain parts of the rules. As for the targets I could have done that. I am not sure exactly where you can download the 50 yard sporting target though. The ISSF 50m target is just too challenging for 50 m without using some type of shooting clothing and a decent gun.

Does the SFC let you download targets? I thought you had to form a club... with a contact person... then they would mail you paper targets...

Seems like this system is a bit more user friendly.

EB

I was on there site and I did not actually see a place where you could download targets.

I have a bunch of the SFC sporting targets (the official ones with 6 bulls on them) but it would be way to much of a hassel to send people targets who want to compete.

As you mention EB this system seems much more user friendly :)

Tried out the targets

Hi guys...

So I took the two ISSF targets to our indoor 25m range today...

I had a look at each of them with the peep site... the one with the black out to the 6 ring was too big... actually, I'll have to switch out my aperature for a bigger one because even the one tha has black out to the 7 ring is a bit big... I have my smallest aperature in now, since I've been shooting outside at 50m all summer...

So I shot the smaller one with my peep sites...

Then I shot the larger one with my bushnell 3-9x32 rimfire scope...

Overall, I like the targets... you can see the shots I pulled standing... and only one shot was compltely wasted by missing the bull... had I been using the 75ft NRA target... I would have had 3 shots that didn't count...

I look forward to hearing what the rest of you think.

Nice shooting Eric! You are really good at all three positions :)

Looks loke the target with black scoring out to 7 is the better way to go.

If anybody else could shoot the target(s) that would be great

cz,

I downloaded and printed the 20/25 target with the black aiming mark out to the outside of the 7 ring as used by EB and will try to do a test shoot in the next few days (outdoors at 25 m). Please confirm the size. My printed target has a 9 ring diameter of 33 mm (approx. 1 1/4"). Is this correct?

This target looks good to me. It is somewhat more challenging than the Shooting Federation of Canada RTS target for that distance, but not nearly as tough as the SFC match target. This seems appropriate given that your rules, which I agree with, do not allow shooting jackets and slings; and that we are trying to attract as many shooters as possible.

I recommend that the emphasis be on a 20/25 m or yds match as this distance is available to more shooters than 50.

I will have to shoot on an outdoor range as, I expect will many others. I have no objection to shooters using indoor ranges if available, but I suggest that shooters state whether shot outdoors or indoors when reporting their scores.

Thank you for your organizing efforts. I really like a 3 position match, but see no reason why a prone only match could not be shot at the same time, same rules and target, for those who cannot shoot 3P or do not wish to do so.

Hi Bluebell

When I print it off with settings "fit to printer margins I get a 9 ring diameter of about 33.3mm (if you measure the top and bottom that is, sideways it is a bit larger).

With printer settings at None it is slightly larger.

I think a prone only match would be a good idea as well. I will look into getting something like that set up.
