New thumper! Rem 600 .458 socom update!

Been a long time since I've updated this thread! Lots on the go. I have been using the rifle as Is for a bit and it works great, but the trigger guard is still ugly. Lucky for me I was visiting my family and my dad has a 3d printer and some CAD knowledge. So we have been designing a one piece bottom metal with the trigger guard. First couple attempts weren't perfect but I have another on the go right now. The one printing now has the appropriate opening and some more material around the mag for strength. Here's a pic of a factory bottom and the two rough attempts. 20190128_150008.jpg15487061002801807010716720351724.jpg

Cool. Im gonna share some pics of what I did for a 788 if you dont mind a suggestion:

So, its hard to see it in the picture, I cant find a better pic, but I got five cut, had a friend tig it together and it sits recessed into the stock. 6061 is light and strong enough if its a bit thicker than steel, but if you have a workable CAD file just send it off to some waterjet shops, I believe I used clear cut metals in calgary for this one.

The rifle/stock in the picture is a project still/slowly in progress, stock is ultralight balsa wood, is going to get a fibre skin on it eventually. I need to send it off for a rebarrel, sorry to distract the thread from the topic.

That looks great! And will be a nice rifle when it's all done. For what I'm doing, the printer makes what I need. Once I get a final fit on the rifle (it's not with me right now) I'm going to add a mag well about 1" long onto the bottom metal. Once the prototype is done I'm going to have him print it with a carbon fiber reinforced material.

Nice, carbon fiber reinforced? Didnt know they could do that with 3D printers. Ill have to look on google.
