New Tikka Bolt Shrouds

Last week I connected with Flick and was able to get mine as well. After 5 years, 7 deer, and hundreds of rounds at the range, the factory bolt shroud got a chip in it. So I PM'd Flick, and was able to get the aluminum one in a couple days. It looks good, and I'm happy.

I'm pretty happy with mine, too, except that I think I got one of the first ones made, and mine has a yellowish tinge to it, so its colour doesn't really match the rest of the SS on the gun.

I also need to get around to trying the BIC pen spring trick so it stops rattling when the firing pin is uncocked...

What trick is this? Could you be a little more specific?

You stick the spring from a BIC pen in the slot on the underside of the shroud, and it keeps a little tension there so the shroud doesn't rattle around when the rifle is uncocked.

What was wrong with the original? I've never noticed anything wrong with mine.

They break. My Tikka came factory equipped with a broken shroud. I've read of them breaking from the gas blast from a ruptured case, the very situation the shroud is supposed to protect you against.

I'm not knocking the quality of Tikkas in general, they make fabulous barrels and exceptionally smooth operating bolts, but this POS bolt shroud should have been upgraded years ago in my opinion.

Hi Jordan, the colouration hasn't improved any. I've been informed by a couple of seperate anodizing shops that it's an unavoidable side effect of the process. Aluminum could never be a perfect match for stainless anyhow, but I don't think it's really all that bad.

I think these might be the most handsome guns that my shrouds have been allowed to adorn:

Those are custom 595's of course. The 595 shrouds don't require that the slot accomodate the cocking indicator all the way to the back, but are otherwise identical to the T3 shrouds.

Hey Flick,

Thanks for the response. I understand that alum is never going to look exactly like SS. Mine has a bit more of a yellowish tinge to it than the ones in your pic, but it definitely doesn't look terrible. Overall, I'm pretty darn happy with it. It's certainly better than the plastic ;)

Thanks
Jordan

Hey Kat, it's not looking very promising. I've got a lotta irons in the fire, and I barely seem to find the time to make another batch of shrouds when I get enough people bugging me for them (not that I mind being bugged). Between OT, The shrouds and a couple other sidelines I don't seem to have any time for shooting or spending time with the girl I just proposed to. I haven't even made it out to Ju Jitsu in 6 months :( I also just applied to the CF reserves. :D

I'm not saying it'll never happen, but if it's something you want in the foreseeable future, I'd look into other options.

Sorry

Not to sideline this thread but any word on the mag well for the T3 Flick???
