New Tikka T3x in 300WM - Rust and Gunk in chamber

Hi everyone,

I picked up a Tikka T3x in 300WM last year that I was going to setup for this year's hunting season. When examining the chamber I noticed a small bit of what appears to be rust and some other glue gunk. Rust is that little spot in orange. It is brand new, bought from a big box store, kept in the box safely for about a year. Can't recall seeing that when I bought it, it was a while ago.

Is it possible for rust to form on a new gun, never fired outside the factory? The gunk appears to be hard, any safety concerns? I'm not sure if this is a warranty issue or what. Kind of confused to be honest. Have a look at the pics. Any advice or guidance is much appreciated! Thanks!

That’s copper from test firing.

The factory typically fires a full mag of ammo to make sure it feeds, fires, extracts and ejects. They don't do a full clean after the test.

Did you need anything special to get rid of it? Seems liked it's caked on there good.

Remember them using a loctite of some kind on their barrels, if memory serves?

So did the 700s I've pulled apart back in the day.

It's bluing salts from the bluing process bluing is a rusting process it will crawl in the tiny space while it is in liquid form then it becomes a solid and seeps out
Also when you wipe a new gun with oil on a rag it will show rust same prossecs

Soak it with a good solvent, clean it, thoroughly dry all solvent out of the chamber, shoot it and enjoy. I don't see anything too concerning in your pics.

Carb cleaner breaks it down fast.

I wash a new rifle action and all metal parts with hot soapy water followed by rinsing with boiling water. Especially scrub the bore. Then dry and flush with wd40 or similar followed by normal oiling. Stainless or blued rifles. This is to remove process salts etc.

LOL .... I'd opt for a heavier stock for a magnum T3, something like a B&C.
