New Tikka T3X Super Lite Stainless issues with scope

So, I have a brand new Tikka T3X Super Lite, mounted a brand new Vortex Viper PST Gen II FFP to it with brand new Burris mounts direct to dovetails.

I can't get the gun sighted in. Seems not all the windage adjustment is available depending on the elevation, and there's just barely not enough windage to bring it in line (I'm like 1MOA to the right with the elevation zero'd in at 100yds).

Any ideas? I don't have a second rifle to test the optics on. Optics, Dovetails, Mount? What's most likely the issue here?
 
Are the ring clamp screws on the same side? The only way I could see not having enough windage in the scope is if it was mounted in a manner that had it sit slightly diagonally on the rifle.

Either that or the front ring is pivoting on the recoil pin while the rear ring is clamping too far to one side.

That scope has 40 MOA of windage adjustment, it would need to be miles off for you to not have enough adjustment for a 100 yard zero.

What is it like at 50? 25?
 
Yeah screws are both on same side. Haven't tried at 50, 25. Need to go to the range again. It only has 40 MOA of windage when elevation is dead center. When you have elevation adjustment you lose windage.

I was going to try different mount system maybe Talley see if that fixes it otherwise it is probably optics being off center somehow?
 
Yeah I would try something that doesn't use the rail on the very remote chance it's not machined perfectly, Talleys are good, or a pic rail and rings. If it ends up being the scope after all that it'll be replaced by Vortex.

Do you have another scope you can try?
 
I just mounted a little Vortex Diamondback on a new T3X Lite. I decided against rail mounting and used dedicated Talley T3 rings. It sighted in beautifully.
 
Tikkas are pretty easy to see if there is mis-alignment, as the action is rectangular and flat on the top. You should be able to lay your rifle on the side and move your head so that the body of the scope and the side of the receiver line up (like you were sighting a front a rear sight).

Simple way to check if its a scope issue, throw it on the ground a few times real hard, then send it to Vortex. Likely within about 10 days you'll have a brand new one and be able to test again.
 
Which rings are you using? You'd need the tikka specific dove tail rings as tikka has an 11mm dovetail if memory serves and universal mounts won't hold.
 
Had the Burris rings for Tikka. I just picked up the Talley lightweights. They are lighter and seem much more stable. Going out today to sight in with these. We shall soon see.
 
Normally, bore sighting will tell you if the zeroing session will be successful, one can also check how much travel one has left, right, up and down from the bore sight zero. This will give an indication if the mounting system is in line with the barrel. 100yd zero should only be a few clicks from the bore sight zero.
