New "tin foil hat" question: Your profile location?

Another newbie question. Why don't you list your location in your profile?
I have been a member and searching the Equip Exchange for 3 years now. Many times my decision to "bite/offer to buy" is based on the seller's location. If it's near me, like for ammo, it really helps, and also for an offer to "meet and buy" to save shipping BS for guns, and to see the merchandise without first asking "where are you?".
But many users do not list their location. Why not? Something to hide? I even see some post script lines like "don't ask where I am". Weird when you are selling a $1K item!
PS: Even the provincial avatar really helps. This dummy can spot Ontario's!

Obviously those who do not have a location on their profile have never read the rules as posted in the application process.
Tin foil you say, do you need some?
I have a great selection available just in time for the Christmas rush.

Just stocked up on a 3 pack of ALCAN at Costco, so I'm good for now but thanks! Seriously it's a rule? Ok then. Anxiously await the CGN Police episode on COPS because many newbies and super-users FAIL!

IMHO some folks think that they are being watched and/or tracked so they need to be careful not give out any more information to help the watchers and trackers locate them..............

Anything you do online can easily be tracked

Get tunnel bear... I use it all the time because software which tracks me for "advertising" reasons is bull####.
Using a VPN wont protect you from criminal activity tho. If the police want to watch you then they will watch you.

Is this like the people covering the license plate on their vehicle when they sell it?

Thousands can see it every day when you are driving but one can't see it on a for sale add?

Tinman, the reluctance is because this is the internet, you know that thing that guarantees your privacy (trust us) but that you send all sorts of information to and have no idea where it goes or who can access it for what purpose. Ya, that internet. It seems to me just common sense to give it as little as possible. Once you make a personal contact (like, for real) there's lots of time to figure out what's what.

Well, you bought the wrong brand....
But, since you have been around since 2014 something has changed to warrant such a hugely important question about peoples location.
Seriously how hard is a private message to inquire about an item of interest?
I once asked about a certain species of fish and the guy literally outed his secret spot to me a stranger who lurks about and under the YVR Flight Path on Runway 2 niner Right.
Go figure , eh.

Rob

For anyone so inclined, it would be child's play to find out much more than full name and address for practically anyone with more than a few posts.

Many times you say? That's interesting. It looks like you've "bought" a whopping 3 items from the EE in the 3 years you've been here.

Your post is misleading which makes your concern over location sound suspicious to me.

Q: How many times have we seen posts and discussion, based on a member's posted location, only to be told (in a subsequent post) that the member's posted location wasn't correct anymore?

A: A lot.
