New TNW MG34

I used to have a Converted Auto, before they became 12-3.
As I recall it, the bolt has a spring contained within it, and there is a small trip lever that releases the firing pin upon bolt lock-up.
So, no matter how gently you ease the bolt forward, it WILL fire.
I found this out by having an accidental discharge. Shocked the absolute shiit out of me.
I knew it was loaded, but wasnt familiar with the operation then.
Fortunately, muzzle direction was good, so no harm other than stained shorts...

Was that manual a US translation of the German one?

I can see what you're saying. I think what the manual intended to say was to maintain a firm grip on the handle to catch the bolt, if it did move forward accidentally.
I don't think the manual is a translation. I think it's a write-up based on researched information.

US manual TM E9-206A ?

I remember now...
It has a non-reciprocating charging handle, so you pull back to retract the bolt, the bolt is held to the rear, Then push CH forward .
Upon firing the bolt lurches forward, stripping a round from the belt, chambers round, bolt head locks up, then trip thing releases firing pin.
If the CH was not pushed forward, it would be carried forward by the bolt at firing, but could cause extra drag preventing full lock-up.

I enjoyed that thing...

In your guys experience, which brand of surplus 8mm have u guys had the most luck with and where can I pick some up. I live in Alberta.

Only 8mm ammo I have and know where to get is Yugo military surplus brass case/berdan primed, 196 grain FMJ ball w/corrosive primers. Any other suggestions or preferences on what type to use in my tnw mg34?

That's what I use, and for lack of a better alternative, I'm happy with it. The ammo works alright in the gun.

I have a supply of the following 8mm fmj: Equador, CZ, Yugo, FN, S&B, Romanian. Best by far is the Romanian but have no idea where to get anymore, never had a ftfeed/ftfire/fteject. I use mainly the Yugo surplus (because I have so much of it) and performance varies, sometimes no problems but more often if any problems occur it's the ftfeed (crushed casings as described earlier) and fteject. Tx 5point for the pics on the feed tray, will definitely look at mine (I have 2 34's). A new bolt solved the hard trigger pull, 1 finger pull now, they must have changed the spring in the bolt or something. Strange that the new 34's that have come in still have a heavy trigger pull.

Glad you got it working. Im waiting on new ejectors for mine. Feeds and fires fine but doesnt eject.

This thread is useless without pics, so heres som id posted in the milsurp section. haha

:(Now my sear ring broke in the back of the bolt assembly. It's shattered into three pieces. I'm having bad luck.

Who did you contact for parts? Direct or through retailer/distributor? Mine came to me new with the same part broken in two. Hope I don't have trouble with warranty parts since I've had it a long time but haven't fired it due to working too much.

Reminds me I need to order some baskets and starter tabs.

I started by contacting TNW directly. It's usually Shawn who picks up the phone first. Ask for Lance and describe your problem to him. From what I understand, some of the sear rings were over-hardened and crystallized. That made them brittle and prone to failure.
