Hello and good day all,

Before the fur starts to fly, gonna point out that I am new the "black rifle" scene. I've mostly been collecting old sniper rifles and Eastern European guns, so this is a new venture for me.

I've been scouring the forums and reading up online, and have a couple of questions left before I start hunkering down to buy. Hopefully all you fine gunnutz can help point me in the right direction.

1) Ok, so there are a lot of manufacturers out there, ie Rock River Arms, Stag Arms, Colt, DPMS, etc. I am curious if one is much more leading edge compared to the other, or is there one that is really behind in the races?
I'm look at Stag Arms, purchasing through ArmsEast, but am still very open to suggestion. Again, new to the scene.

2) How are the AR's for reliability, how cross-compatible are they, ie uppers and lowers, various accessories,etc. overall? Say, in the future, if I decide to change or replace a DPMS upper, could it be attached to a R.R.A. lower?

Just a quick question about the Walther G22 - I assume it can no longer be purcahsed or traded due to the bullpup nature, regardless of how integral the stock is to the firearm or any other reason?

Stag Arms have an EXCELLENT reputation around here. It's probably the closest to 'mil-spec' that you can buy reasonably priced.

Almost all standard lowers and uppers are interchangeable between brands, with the exception of Colt. Not sure on models, but some Colts are small pin (large pin?) and their uppers and lowers are only compatible (out of the box) with other Colts. You can buy a little peice that turns a large pin into a small... but I can't remember the whole ins and outs.

If you stick with non-colt uppers and lowers, you should have zero interchangeability issues.

You can still use Colt's but some require an adapter ~10$ to make it assemble, but Colt is really hard to come by, so mostly you will find Armalite, Bushmaster, RRA, Stag, Dlask, DPMS, they are all compatible.

I have found it easier to get Armalite parts when you want to build your own, but if your buying complete guns, uppers or lowers than the choice is wide. Nice to see that now, it was not like that a few years back.

Once you catch the bug, you will need you regular AR meds.. ;)

Ahh well. I figure it's a much addiction to have.

Anyone know about the G22 situation? Is it in court?

Just had a GREAT experience with Walter at Arms East.

Easy to talk to and helpful to rookies.

I picked up a 3R complete upper (witha free flaoting rail), a stripped lower and parts kit and assembled it a few minutes ago..still waiting for the MagPul Stock tho :mad:.

Haven't fired it yet but have high expectations.
 
Yeah, placed my order, did the CFC thing too.

Walter is a great guy to deal with. He's great for communication as well.

On it's way to court: YES
Is there a court date?: NOT YET
What is the problem: The rifle can fire without the rear lower portion of the stock attached.

So, the big question is, why the hell does that matter? Truth is, it doesn't.

If it CAN fire WITH the stock removed, then OBVIOUSLY the stock isn't a bullpup stock because IT doesn't "place a significant portion of the action rearward of the trigger"... lol.
It also DOESN'T shorten the overall length of the firearm (it adds about 1.5" to the OAL).

I am 100% confident we'll be able to keep the lower stocks. The rifle isn't in question at all.

So, yes, it's non-restricted. I can go out and hunt with it no problem.

BUT, it's prohibited from import and prohibited from transfer.

I asked if I could lend it to someone:
"As long as they have the same prohibited class on their PAL as the Walther G22 is." ... "What f'ing 12.x is that?!", I'm not sure, it just shows up as generally prohibited in my computer...

lol. So, we're not to sure if you can even lend it at this point. I have an offer of $1000 for a "permenant lend" to someone until it can be transfered.

Theoretically, assuming the lower rear portion of the stock is prohib, you could remove it and lend the rest of the non-restricted rifle.

Very crazy.

If you're ever near anywhere between the GTA and London you're welcome to come shoot mine. BUT, it'll just make you want one more :D

Thanks Jamie for clear that all up. It looks like I'll just have to be patient and hope that someone within our "wonderful" judicial system has common sense. Although from some of the threads around here, rulings tend to be against most gun owners, no matter how obscene or ridiculous the charges against them are.

G22, if it is currently prohib from import, what could Questar help with? Just curious, or if I missed something that should be obvious :p
