New to AR's and want a traditional look!!!

There are two really good choices for uppers and lowers. the Norinco cq311 recievers have the traditional look or you can order from nodakk spud in the states through irunguns. If you are looking for a little retro #### try retroblackrifle.com also the retro section of ar15.com is good too. I am building an xm177e2 clone right now and its just a matter of trolling the EE really regularly and having money ready to go. I can't see this costing more than 1000 bucks. Here is a tip the DPMS lpk is traditional looking. Good luck, I have to worn you that finished pics INCLUDING FEET are required :D

As others have said, Norc 311 or Colt SP1. I'd think $1200 would be too much for an SP1, I'd pay more around the $900 mark. Others may disagree though.

Not too many companies made M16/A1 clones. I do have a PWA M16A1 clone, most parts are mil surplus. The lower is about the commercially made part.

This just popped on EE btw

I have a buddy with a 1975 Colt AR15 1/12 twist with the large .315 pivot pin hole. He has a spare stripped upper and both the original furniture and new A2 furniture and a scope mount. He has been looking for a faster twist setup and I think he would swap for a cheap Norc M4. He has mentioned that to me.

Thanks for the info guys, i now have an idea on where to look now. Another dumb Newbie question, whats peoples feelings on full 20 inch barrel setup for 3 gun, good or bad idea, i think i just like the look of the longer barrel too, and though its gonna start off life as a plinker and range toy, i might wanna get myself into the occasional 3 gun match later on. Is there any good options on maybe a more modern upper, or full rifle that be useful for 3 gun, i guess barrel length don't matter too much when plinking, and i'm not huge into miles of rails on the forearm, all i need is to mount an optic and prefer to keep the rest smooth for now. I can always change the forearm later if i so choose.
