New to ARs - need some help

Hello all, my second post here.

I want to get an AR. Love the look, but I've never handled one. There are so many options and configurations you guys talk about, it gets really confusing, really fast. And I'd hate to just start ordering stuff, not knowing anything about them.

If anyone is heading to the range some upcoming weekend with their AR and can take a guest, I'd really like to tag along. I'll be happy to pay for any ammo you let me put through it.

Look a Newbie, Welcome to CGN - Looks like your jumping in balls deep right of the hop. I have spent a fortune buying guns over the years and then not liking the way it feels.

A good way to see if you like a gun before you buy it is Join a club/range make friends and ask someone if they will let you try it. It really sucks when you spend $1000 on a gun and find that after you shoot it you don't like the way it feels or handles, then ending up selling it for a lot less to recover your cost. been there done that.

Over all an AR is a very fun gun and can cost big $$$$. If you do find that this is where you want to start then I would say buy a complete gun and dress it up later when money isn't so tight.
 
If you go to target sports centre in stoufville(sponsor on top of page) they have an Imperial Defence 10'5" AR15 that you can shoot on the range.. Can't remember the pricing, thought it was very reasonable. They also have a CX4 storm and a bunch of handguns.
 
We tell that to al our new club members,try the guns before you buy if you can. I know at our club most of the members are pretty reasonable and will let you try a gun or two. But for some reason that message goes in one ear and out the other,and they end up buying the biggest and meanest gun on the block. I agree AR"S are great fun but can be costly with mods,mags and so on. Try one out and you will be hooked.
 
Buds give some thought to a 9mm AR, cheap ammo, and all the same features?
I love my 5.56, but ammo these days ain't cheap. I built a 9mm AR for the ability to shoot more.Just my $.02. Good Luck

It's $40 plus the cost of ammo. The $40 covers having a staff member supervise you as Ontario ranges are not allowed to rent guns (so what you are really renting is the instructor).
