I decided to get into the AR scene before any bans and because it was something I've been considering for a while. I found a trade deal that worked well for me so took the leap without really knowing much at all about the platform or what I was getting into. The deal was advertised as a Norinco CQA. I did some research and reviewed the ups and downs of the brand and was comfortable with that as my AR starting point. However, once it arrived I was surprised to find out that it wasn't a complete Norinco but was a build on a Norinco lower. So my question to you fine folks is this.
Based on the following parts list what do you think?
Opinions on build result?
What would be some reasonable changes (keeping in mind the entry level aspect of this rifle)?
Lower; Norinco CQ-A (unknown LPK)
Upper; Aero Precision black anodized
Barrel; Del-Ton (DTI) 16", 1x9 twist, 5.56, carbine length gas system, lightweight profile, F marked A2 FSB (unknown flash hider)
Bolt; Continental Machine
Bolt carrier; unknown but is black nitrite (cannot find any ID marks on it)
Trigger guard; Magpul
Furniture; Assumed Norinco OE with carbine length handguard
It came with a detachable A2 carry handle, it and all other parts are unknown make.
I would like to upgrade the lower to perhaps an Aero or other better quality piece. This would be to have equal quality upper and lower. But right now the fit is excellent with very little play. Thoughts?
So far I swapped out the stock and grip for Magpul MOE and am looking for a handguard of the same. These were just personal preference changes for comfort.
I have stripped and cleaned the rifle and all parts appear to be in very lightly used condition. I fired well over 100 rounds without a single hiccup. Brass ejects consistently and without any signs of impact with the frame. Primers have consistent depth FP strikes. No signs of extractor marks on brass.
I'm really impressed with this rifle and platform in general. The simplicity and ease of use is amazing.
Any words of wisdom or thoughts on what I could to in the future are appreciated.
