I'm looking to get into Black Rifles. I absolutely love AR-15's and was planning on buying a Stag Model 2T some time this year once I have aquired the appropriate funds. After some consideration though I have started to question an AR as my first black rifle, mainly due to the restricted status. I own an M&P9 right now and very rarely shoot it as I cannot find time to get to the range. I do most of my non-restricted shooting at a friends house in the country. I'm looking at the XCR as the most likely alternative and am curious as how it stacks up reliabilty wise, I'm also curious about it's functionality as a varmint gun (accuracy and range?).

Non-restricted black rifles generally command a huge price premium. The AR 180b seems to be a popular alternative, but I have heard some good things about the XCR as well.

If money is of no object, also consider the Swiss Arms rifles. From what I was told, none of them will be an AR.

Good luck with the search

The main unrestriced rifles you are going to need to read about will be the...

Tavor - Bullpup, fairly pricey around $3000
XCR - Piston driven AR style, around $2500
Swiss Arms - Great quality but lots of plastics, $3500+

But there are many more, and many threads about them here.

You could also consider a non-restricted HK SL8-4. About the same price as an XCR, and likely better in terms of accuracy and reliability.

I have never shot one, but I recall hearing they have pretty bad triggers and arent that accurate. I could really be wrong as this is the internet and people make crap up all the time.

They will all be lot more accurate than you will ever be able to shoot.

I never understood why people say that. If I can shoot under 1moa with my Tikka, why would I not be able to shoot that with my XCR? If my XCR shoots ~1.5Moa, cant I shoot more accurately than my XCR?

There are functional limits to the accuracy of the system provided by the shooter, ammuniton and the gun, yes...but to say that the limit of that potential will be the shooter is false.

i have an M&P-15 and love it! i just order a .22 conversion kit for it so i can play for cheap, but what id REALY LOVE is a swiss arms SIG 522Lr. they look like a ton of fun to shoot and there about 500$ i think, maybe more in canada... if you can find one. if i ever find one, its mine for sure!

the Sig 522 is a creation of Sig Sauer USA, not Swiss Arms or Sig or Sauer and sons. It won't be the same qaulity or even in the same league but I still have my eyes pealed for one or more especially if non-restricted.
