As the subject line suggests I'm new to Cowboy Shooting and I'm pretty pumped up by the whole thing!! The guns, the "Bang and Clang" , the fact that a novice can have a blast and see the potential for improvement, and most of all such great people!!

So two shout outs (or is that two "shouts out"?!?!)

Many thanks to Toller and the Twin County Bounty Hunters up near Owen Sound for a a fantastic day today.

And Crow and the posse at the Bar-E (Barrie GC) for hosting me a couple times and getting me hooked.

Howdy and welcome! As you've already found out, Cowboy Action shooting has room for just about anyone, regardless of age, gender, or shooting experience. No matter whether your goal is to compete at the highest levels of the sport, or just like to make a lot of smoke, noise and let out the occasional: "YEEHAW"!!!, Cowboy Action has room for everyone's taste. Plus, there's always room for improvement. If you haven't already....check out the OSASF webpage for upcoming matches around Southwestern Ontario. Lots going on....and always great matches.
I just returned from Saskatoon, where I competed in the Western Regional Cowboy Action Championships. Had a blast! Those Saskatchewan cowpokes and their ladies really know how to put on an event. Lots of fun, competition, and plenty of that world famous western hospitality to go around. Its an annual event for me. Well worth the trip. Mission BC is this year's host of the Canadian Championships, which will be kicking off anytime now. Should be a real hoot!
Anyway....always good to welcome another newcomer to the sport. There's a shoot coming up this weekend at Crumlin Gun Club, in London Ontario. Another at Guelph, the following weekend. If you can make either of them, I'm sure you'll have a great time and feel welcome.

Just to clarify, The Mission shoot is the SASS Canadian Championships... You must be a SASS member to participate. The Alberta Frontier Shootist host the Canadian Championship of Cowboy Action and have done so for the past 15 yrs except for the two yrs. we were without a range. We welcome All Cowboy Shooters ( internationaly as well as Canada wide), no SASS membership required (as the SASS events do). We hold the Championships every year on the Aug long weekend and our range problems seem to be behind us with the new permanent range we have 30 km west of Rocky Mnt. House AB. A beautiful Alberta foothills site that we have dubbed "The fill your hand you sob" range because of the striking resemblance to the meadow featured in the Rooster Cogburn movie.

The new range offers almost unlimited onsite camping (while it's not free, the land owner charges a very nominal fee for the whole weekend, about the same as a prov campground charges for one night only) room and a bon-fire every night ( pretty much what we were accustomed to for the first 13 yrs of our existence). The new range ,when completed, we will be able to accommodate down-range movements in every stage bay ( similar to other action shooting scenarios), a lot of people looking forward to that added fun.

You can't help but have fun playing cowboy.
If you get around Ottawa on a match day, look up the Ottawa Valley Marauders, at The Eastern Ontario Shooting Club and we'll fit you up for a stage or two.
