New to handguns- had a few questions

Hi guys and gals,
My name is Matt and I am new to this site and relatively new to handguns. I had a few questions regarding maintenance and cleaning of my fire arm etc.
I own a Sig Sauer P226 and I was just wondering when cleaning I am using WIPEOUT, is this a good enough cleaner for my firearm? I bought new and love it to death and want to maintain it as best as I can. Should I use a different cleaner? should I use something on top of that cleaner? I clean it after every use, strip the fire arm down brush, clean etc do I need to do more than that to make sure it is in great condition? I heard you guys are the best to ask and that is why I am here.
Any help or advice is appreciated

wipeout is great for cleaning, but its not a great lube you will need to use a good lube, like break free clp or others suited for the job. .
 
Wipeout is a very effective cleaner. I like to put a patch in the chamber and then give the muzzle a squirt. If a gun is particularly dirty, I like to do this at the range, while the barrel is warm. by the time I get home, the Wipeout has done its thing and a patch will wipe the barrel clean.

I put a patch in the chamber so that the foaming Wipeout stays in the barrel and does not carry crap into the action and trigger.

If the action needs cleaning (about every 5th range outing) I remove slide and spray action with brake cleaner and scrub with a toothbrush, then spray with a lube like CLP.
 
Worry less about what these chemicals do for your gun and more about what they are doing to you. They are very effective but Always use proper protective items to keep yourself safe and never spray these in your home/basement.
 
I've never used wipe out, but I will say this. Don't oil your rails on your 226, use a grease. I use just a standard white lithium grease from canadian tire on my 226, don't be fooled by gun brands.
