Hey folks, not usually in this area of CGN as while I have a few surplus rifles, I'm mostly a black rifle guy. But I've always liked the mausers and I was thinking of picking up a Yugo M48A, and I was wondering if that's a good way of getting a shooter Mauser. I've been thinking of getting a Russian capture, but they all look so beat and for twice the price of a Yugo. Any advice?

The M48 is functionally very similar to a K98k. It is not the same, but for a general feel, it is fairly close. They tend to be in very good condition, and as mentioned tend to be one of the cheaper M98 variants (especially for the condition).

Another option if you want a decent shooter would be a Israeli K98k, which tends to run in a similar price range. Some of those are built off of German K98ks (and a variety of other M98 Mausers), and are in .308 so are cheaper to shoot.

Have you looked into Latin American Mausers? Those come in 7x57.From what I'm told much more versatile caliber and more "shoulder friendly".

Most of them have seen wars too,not as big as WW2 but just as bloody.

RC K98k's are just junk. I'm sorry to those who like them, but an M48 is a better condition rifle, assembled and hand fit in a factory. The RC K98's are just jumbled together random parts, they are usually pretty beat up with a mix of parts and no care taken in fitting them.

A bringback K98k is a nicer rifle than an M48, but an M48 is a nicer rifle than a russian refurbed K98k.

very well said...M48's are New Old Stock, and you can no go wrong with New Mauser!!
once you get ur M48, you should source a Yugo Capture K98 as well...way better condition then RC, and cheaper as well
