Picked up a 1911 that I acquired in a trade. S.A.M. GI Commander E. It’s in better overall condition than I anticipated and shows signs of very little use. Roughly 20-30 rds was what I was told. Thats believable but probably a few more. There is one “blemish” on the right side cocking serrations. Oh well, not a huge deal. Saves me from doing it.
Now to get it to range and see how it fires.

I love the styling of these guns. Vertical serrations and no serrations on the front of the slide is such a classic look, I love it.

Give it a good safety function test...looks like a few aftermarket parts swapped in. Finish looks a bit odd too. The polished Sam's are almost mirror, the matte are a heavy blasted finish, this looks like someone took a scotch pad to it.

I have a matched pair of the same guns but Govt 5in size.

The fit/finish function and accuracy of them is very impressive.
They have decent triggers, very good slide/frame fit, barrel hood/lugs/link/pins/muzzle bushings fit well.

They also shoot pretty much to POA/POI with the novak knockoff sites too.

They have so far impressed me. I really like the classic approach with single vertical slide serrations and the rest classic Govt.
The beavertail safeties fit well and feel good.
Also really like that they have steel arched mainspring housings.

I have stripped it completely and done a comparison test between the after market parts and the original parts. It seems to be fine and works “the same way” with both sets installed. As for the finish....I agree it appears to have been scrubbed up a bit. I may polish it or strip it completely and media blast it. We will see. In any case, I am first going to see how it fires and check accuracy and go from there.
